True, but I'm not really crazy about any of the character depictions in general. The movies are entertaining, but, truth be told, sometimes I don't even think of them as the same characters as the ones in the book. Movie!Ron and Movie!Hermoine are not Ron and Hermoine in my mind when I read the books.

True. Movie!Hermione especially is IMO totally removed now from the character in the books. They turned Hermione into Keira Knightley character. I don't hate her but MovieHermione and BookHermione are two different characters to me.

I think they've screwed up Ron in a worse way. I found myself being almost annoyed with him in some movie scenes (especially in the second film), which was disappointing because I always thought he was one of the better developed characters in Rowling's world.
In the movies it's Harry and Hermione with Ron being dragged along as a sidekick. They could cut him from the movies because he seems like a pointless character. Wouldn't be a loss.

What is their problem with the actress? Is it because she's Asian?

Did these people not realize that with a name like "Cho Chang" there was a pretty strong possibility that the character Asian?

Well, it's just a guess since I haven't seen any of the web sites or comments, racial or otherwise...

I think it's probably more along the lines of jealousy towards this girl who gets to be "Harry Potter's girlfriend." Slurs come because these ninnies are unoriginal so fall back on the fact that she comes from one itdentifiable group of people. I'm sure if she looked like a blonde haired Norwegian goddress she's still be called "Asian Bush" or whatever because she's playing Cho. Sounds to me like what happened over at the old FT site when any person who didn't like a particular actress resorted to derogatory (insert-favorite-female-part-here) name calling.

I haven't the interest or energy to look into it though.

From what I've read on most of the HP boards it seems that most of the hate stems from the jealousy factor.

It seems that many don't think she's pretty enough to be Cho because Cho should be a great beauty and drop dead gorgeous. However, I don't think the book described her that way. IRRC, she was described more along the lines of really cute with a fun personality (until OotP).

Personally she looks exactly like I pictured Cho but it definitly comes down to a matter of personal opinion. It just seems some of the more fangirly ones are pretty biased and green eyed.

Oh, silly, silly fans. It reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons where Lisa sees J.K. Rowling at the airport in London and asks her how the series ends. Rowling rolls her eyes and says something like, "Harry defeats Voldemort and marries you and you both live happily ever after. Is that what you want to hear?" and Lisa dreamily replies, "Yes!"
