Oh yeah, there was straight hysterics at the end of DH1 with Dobby. I cried over a CGI character. Kids were like "NoooO!" And sniffles were heard. This time, maybe there was too much to take in, there was just tension in the theater throughout. I do wish they could've run this all together...maybe they'll do some special screenings with an intermission between films? I'd love that.

There was a lot of sniffling in our theater during "The Prince's Tale", it was rather sweet.

I finally got around to seeing this (the last two weekend got eaten up by other stuff). Overall, I liked it. It would have been nice to have a few brighter moments or moments of levity, but I think they did a great job of showing that it was indeed a war and war is hell. Everyone in my theater was all, "Yay!" when Neville first came through the portrait. I'm glad that he got to get his big hero moments. But man, I kinda wanted him to just grab Luna and kiss her when she came to sit down next to him at the end. There was a lot of loud sniffling during Snape's death and the Prince's Tale. There was some too when Harry went into the forest, but Snape got the biggest tears. I thought that sequence was good even though it left out some key parts, but Alan Rickman was wonderful (as usual). I thought the main trio did really, really well in this movie. I was impressed. I didn't think the Ron/Hermione kiss was that bad, and I liked that it came in one of those "Holy crap! We made it! We're alive!" moments. Bonnie Wright? Still wooden as a forest. I've taken to picturing her like this in my head, but I think that may have a more expressive face. Very pretty girl, not a great actress. Overall, I liked it and would probably like it more on repeat viewings. It was definitely the darkest and the bloodiest of the movies. During some of the more violent parts I saw someone taking their 6 or 7 year old looking kid out, which...yeah. I think it would have been a bit much for the little ones. Snape's death alone was totally brutal, and that was just seen through some frosted glass. ETA: I do wish that they hadn't glossed over so much of Dumbledore's background, because I do believe that one of the lessons Rowling imparts in the books is how dangerous the pursuit of power is, and how costly it can be. Dumbledore lost his sister due to his thirst for power. Snape lost the only person he loved due to him joining the Deatheaters in order to grab some power. And I suppose you can say Voldemort lost the only person he cared about - himself - in his quest for ultimate power. ETA Again: I kept meaning to post this, but I don' think I did - a really nice open-letter "thank you" from Alan Rickman to Rowling.

Severus Snape and the Marauders, a fan-made short film about a post-graduation run-in between the four Marauders and Snape, resulting in a fight motivated by James Potter. It's excellent, really well-made with quite impressive special effects. James Potter is such a difficult character to depict because the books never gave us a clear portrayal of him obviously. In the beginning Harry was constantly told how awesome his father had been at basically everything and later we only saw him through Snape's memory, being a total jackass and bully. This film gives us a bit of both but I still don't like the way it seems as if Lilly ever considered choosing Snape. BookSnape always seemed to believe that she had chosen him if it hadn't been for James but I always thought she pitied him and wanted to be his friend more than anything else, which he screwed up all by himself. But maybe I'm remembering things wrong, I need to re-read those books ;-) The same people behind this also created a short film about Dumbledore and Grindelwald a few years ago which is also good. But this latest one is really outstanding imho.

Yeah, I always saw Snape as friend-zoned. Dude thought he was entitled to her because they shared a moment or two when they were kids and sometimes she was nice to him. (I get that movie Snape is emo-beloved because Alan Rickman was awesome, but I always thought Snape was a pathetic loser whose only noble trait was that managed to do the right thing at critical moments in his life.)

My husband at long last convinced me to give these movies a go.... they were fantastic! Everything about them was of excellent quality. Everything: casting, lighting, costumes cinematography, script.... I don't have words.
I do have questions though: Considering all the mayhem Draco's family caused at Hogwarts, why is it okay that he's sending his own children to the school? Also, I can't wrap my head around the Snape thing; why are we viewing him as a hero? He was all caught up in Voldermort's shenanigans and at the last minute, because he has a crush on Harry's mom 20 years ago, he didn't kill Harry, and now he's a good guy?

I believe Snape had been working as a double agent (reporting to Dumbledore) from the time Harry's parents were killed by Voldemort up through his own demise at the Battle of Hogwarts. He killed Dumbledore as both had previously arranged to have happen since Dumbledore was already dying and doing so would allow Snape to spare Draco/fully gain Voldemort's trust.

Yup. Snape was never a "good guy" per se, but he was protecting Harry from the beginning because he'd loved Harry's mother. That didn't mean that he LIKED Harry, however.

I think the "Snape is a good guy" thing is much clearer in the books than in the movies, especially the part about Snape placing the sword of Gryffindor in the forest for Harry to find.

Well I'm bringing this back up because all 8 movies will be on HBO streaming soon.
And also because I just watched Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. It was cute.
