So I finally saw Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. I enjoy the books and movies; not a fan of Johnny Depp.
It seemed very, very long and there was lots of exposition. It's clearly setting up a third movie. I knew Rowling was never going to let go despite everything she said after the original movies ended, but I don't feel like the Fantastic Beasts entries add much to my appreciation of HP.
The actors were okay, I didn't care about the Dumbledore - Grindelwald back story because I can't stand Depp as an actor and find him mildly repulsive. And for the love of God can they quit giving him pale white skin or makeup. Plus I HATE the stupid eye.
I will eventually see the (hopefully) last one, but since we know the outcome of the main conflict they set up I expect it will be another mediocre viewing experience. But hey, this one made me appreciate Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them more!

I don't know if it's just me, but I have a hard time understanding anything that comes out of Eddie Redmayne's mouth. He tends to mumble and eat his words. And I dislike having to watch movies with the closed captioning/subtitles on, so I stopped watching The Crimes of Grindelwald. *shrug*

I only understood about 30% of what he was saying in the first movie. I read a review that the accent is a choice, and he and the direct are sticking to it. I haven't seen the second entry due to poor reviews and Johnny Depp inclusion, and have no interest in seeing it. If Johnny's gone from the third one, and it gets better reviews, I may just turn on the captions, and watch it when it hits television. I love the universe and am wholly disappointed that Jo if ruining her legacy like this.

Rowling needs to release control and bring on a screenwriter to help her. Writing a novel and writing a screenplay are very different things, and she’s clearly much better at one than the other.

I will never not be bitter that they swapped Depp for Colin Farrell. IMO Farrell managed to deliver one of the few genuinely scary villain portrayals in all the HP movies (the other was Staunton as Umbridge), so of course they immediately switched it for Depp's usual Cooky!Weird!(tm) shtick.

I think Colin is severely underrated as an actor. A lot of times I will only see a movie because he is In it and usually one of the best parts.

Wait! Colin Farrell was in HZarry Potter? Who did he play? He was in Fantastic Beasts (not really a Harry Potter movie, though same universe). He plays an American wizard.

My youngest wanted to re-watch the Deathly Hallows movies this weekend, and I have a question - the sweater Neville is wearing at the Battle of Hogwarts, is it a specific type of UK sweater pattern, or just a generic dorky sweater? I was wondering because with fall temperatures hitting with a vengeance here in Seattle in the last week, people have broken out their Norwegian sweaters.
