Actually Ian would have been a great Dumbledore. He has that wise thing yet cheery, yet do not fuck with me vibe as described in the books. Although Richard Harris is the best out of him and Gambon. Gambon just sucks. What is up with him always having to practically shout out Harry Potter? When it's just Harry, he's fine, but when he says the whole name, he exaggerates too much.

Ew. Gah! Ok, I'm gonna try to pretend I never read that.
Yeah, the imdb thread on the girl who played Cho had to get locked because people were being vicious (I assume, because it was deleted/locked before I ever saw it). She's a cute girl. What is wrong with people?

They are racist asswipes that is what their problem is. I was on there once, and merely peeked at one topic because it was just vicious I had to get out of there. They could not fathom how an Asian girl could be Harry's love interest and that it was impossible for her to be considered Scottish. Some people just need to get beat down from time to time.

I don't get the Cho insults. She had like a single line, so the criticism can't be based on her acting ability. And, IMO, she's very cute, just as described in the book! I agree with you, Coffee, it reeks of racism.
Regarding the recasting of DD, since I'm not well versed on English actors, especially older ones, I would so love to see Liam Neeson tackle the role! They could age him.

People can be so stupid.
I didn't really think much of the fact that Harry's love-interest was Asian, I was just glad she didn't look like another Barbie-doll.
I haven't read the books, so I'm wondering how Cho was described in the books?

She is described as Asian and very cute in the books.
I thought the actress was perfect for the role and quite adorable. I liked her accent.

I read the IMDB thread before it was locked and I was shocked and horrified. Imagine hordes of jealous preteen and teenaged girls (for the most part) claiming that the young actress who played Cho looked like a "pig" because of her nose, that "full" Asian girls were uglier than those who were part European (Smallville's Kristen Kruek's name cam up a lot as "perfect") supposedly because the Euro genes cancelled out the "ugly" Asian ones, so on. It was full-on racist and vile.

Me too (re: her accent). I think it's a nice touch that there's a lot of diversity among the characters in the books. Maybe the fangirls should take a cue from the characters they so revere and not act like racist a-holes.

I appreciate the diversity, too and was pretty shocked to read about the awful letters that poor actress was getting from crazy fans. I remember getting a chuckle when there was a Rowling backlash that basically said that the books were "unrelatable" to a lot of the children who read them because they represent a very specific middle-class upbringing (prefects, boarding school, house conflicts etc...) that isn't the reality for a lot of kids. However, in books that might be more "relatable", there isn't half of the straight up diversity found in the Harry Potter books.
The movies... yeah... I think I prefer Gambon's Dumbledore. He doesn't have the gravitas that Harris did and I do agree that he seems to yell and freak out a little too much. However, I get from Gambon this sense of extreme power as a wizard. Harris commanded respect because, well he was Richard Harris, and he had this grandfatherly, extremely wise thing going for him but Gambon looks like he could tussle with Voldemort and come out on top. I don't know. I don't think Gambon is a vast improvement or anything but I like his sort of unhinged quality. You can see that he is sometimes incapable of playing by the rules and that gets him into trouble more and more. Harris was good in the first few movies when Dumbledore is more of an idea than a real flesh-and-blood wizard, but Gambon, I think, brings more urgency to the role.

I normally don't like to throw the jealousy card out but in this case, it so painfully obvious and disgusting that I can't help it. The veiled and sometimes unveiled racism had me running from that forum. It was disgusting. Those kids need to be slapped into reality and they really need to get over themselves. It is an effing movie.
I loved Katie Leung as Cho. She was how I pictured her. And her accent was beyond cute.
As for Ian McKellan...I'm happy he turned down the role. He just seems a little too harsh for Dumbledore.
