So much of OotP is unnecessary. I like so much of that book, yet at the same time I dislike so much of it. One thing I liked about the film adaptation of GoF was that they didn't waste a whole lot of time before Harry actually got to Hogwarts, even if it was a little choppy. Obviously there are some things that OotP has to leave in--Harry getting attacked by dementors, for instance--but they can EASILY cut a lot of Sirius's house, at the ministry politics leading up to Harry's hearing. Cut that and the Hagrid/Grawp storyline (which I hooooope they do!) and that's probably about 300 pages of book they don't need to use. GoF, I'm assuming, was probably the hardest to adapt because there was so much foreshadowing in every. single. thing. that happened, and it all tied into the plot at the end. OotP's suplots are much more extraneous.

And what's even worse, one of the producers was interviewed on the red carpet of the GoF premiere and he said that in the current draft of OoTP, LOCKHART was still in. I mean, talk about a useless cameo! Now, hopefully that has since changed. I mean, come ON!

I guess that means they're actually going to St. Mungo's, then? Good, I hope they keep the scene with Neville and his parents, heartbreaking though it is. I agree Lockhart can go, though.
Actually, most of Christmas can go.

I agree with a lot of what's been said about OotP. I always thought that despite being the longest book, it actually has the least amount of events to cram in to the movie. I think that all that really needs to happen is finding the Room of Requirement, creating Dumbledore's Army, Harry's teenage hormonal goodness with Cho, and going to the Ministry at the end.
Obviously the whole thing with Rita Skeeter writing for the Quibbler has to be cut, because the being-an-animagi thing was cut from GoF. I also think that if they were really pressed for time, they could cut the whole thing with the Dementors attacking Harry, since Umbridge is still pretty mean even without having sent them, plus she wasn't fired from the Ministry so her postion since that book hasn't really changed.
They've gotta keep the Room of Requirement in though, or they're going to be doing some serious scrambling when HBP rolls around.

I bought the movie and I noticed that it only has one DVD. Isn't there supposed to be a second disc with all the extra things on it. Please tell me I didn't get ripped off.

There are two different DVD's being sold. The one disc plain edition and the two disc edition with all the extras. The two disc edition even has a snazzy hologram cover. It's a tad more expensive.

I like that there were actually some good deleted scenes included with this one. The DVD for PoA pissed me off. Actually, I thought that whole movie was borderline bad.
That said - who the friggin hell did the layout for the two disc DVD? No menu? Just stupid "Hogwarts", "First Task" etc labels and it doesn't explain what anything is. Is it a game? a special feature?

The menus on the second disc really annoyed me too, but there's some good stuff there once you can find it. My favorite by far is where they follow the Triwizard Champs around for the day while they shoot. They are all just FAR too adorable.
