I can't believe they are going to leave that useless storyline in! Personally, I've been a bit sick of Hagrid since PoA. The guy that plays him really brings the character to life and I wouldn't want them to cut him out completely but he needs to be cut down. The giant storyline should have been cut from the book -- it's just going to bog the movie down.
I also think they could cut quite a but of the Order of the Phoenix drama. They need to introduce everyone and explain what they are all doing there, but that's about it, except for the tension between Sirius and Snape.
Dumbledore's Army and Umbridge are pretty central. I don't think they need to reproduce the book page by page, but some of the best reading was seeing the professors and others quietly scheme against Umbridge and the Ministry.
I hope they leave all of the St. Mungo's visit in. That was the most memorable part of the book for me.

Well, sadly I read that not only is Grawp still in, but his scenes are being filmed or have already been finished. I guess he could still be edited out, but I don't think so. I think he's in to stay. I just don't understand it. I think the St. Mungo's visit will be in too. I agree with you about Dumbledore's Army. About Umbridge, I agree to an extent. There's alot to pack in for this one, and Dumbledore's Army deals well with Umbridge and fighting Voldemort. But then there's Snape and Occlumency as well. Sirius' death. The prophecy. Good grief, I'm glad I'm not adapting it.

For real! They've got to include some of Snape and the occlumency which will give Rickman something meatier to do than his GoF scenes.
I really wish it could be a miniseries. I hate to think of all the stuff in the ministry (e.g., the prophecy, the bell jar, the brains attacking Ron) being shortened.

Ahh! The brains were scary! If they keep that in I might get nightmares...
I also read yesterday that they'd filmed the Grawp scenes. Son of a gun! It would make so much more sense to cut those scenes--Hagrid's not even in the first half of the book because he and Maxime were off making deals with the giants, but they didn't even discuss that at the end of the last movie. I'm not sure how that is going to work.
I finally got to see the extras on the GoF DVD! There's a deleted scenes of Snape breaking up Yule Ball makeout sessions--heh.

Shoot! Why did I have to go and buy the edition that doesn't have the extras? I was disappointed that scene didn't make it into the movie because I figured Alan Rickman would be hilarious in it.

I just finished watching all the extras too. The little documentaries about following the champions around (called Meet the Champions) and the making of Voldemort are GREAT. Very enjoyable extras. Oh, also the Yule Ball! Very, very funny. I wished they kept that Snape scene in.

Soooo, I'm quite excited, because I just read a tiny little rumor (completely unconfirmed by anybody reputable) that this young man has been cast as young Remus Lupin in OotP. If this rumor isn't complete bollocks, I have to say that, dismissing his ridiculous emo-boy hair, I'm not at all displeased.

I've just watched the dvd. Still love the film but it now really bothers me that they left so much out in the end. Explaining further what happened to Barty Crouch Jr. has now got to be put into the beginning of the next movie, right? Isn't one of the main themes of OotP that the magical world doesn't believe that Voldemort's back because there was no way to ask Barty about it? Anyway, I really liked the documentaries, esp. (as has been mentioned) the one about the actors who played Fleur, Cedric and Krum. Totally adorable, all three of them! And the one about the yule ball made it look as if it must have been a lot of fun preparing and shooting those scenes. I also liked that really long interview with Rupert, Emma and Dan. But I hope Rupert was talking about MovieRon when he said that he wished Ron was braver sometimes. Because BookRon IS brave!
ETA: So they're leaving Snape's memory scene in? That's really good especially if we have to put up with that Gawp stuff (sorry, but that was really annoying and boring in the book). I loved the chapter about young James Potter and his "gang". I was hoping it would make it into the film.

I think they can leave out Barty Crouch in OoTP -- or they can do a short exposition.
I am still hoping that someone comes to their senses and leaves Grawp on the cutting room floor. That storyline literally serves no purpose.

The Grawp stuff might serve a purpose in the final book. Doesn't Rowling tell the movie people what to leave in and out in case it is important for the final book? If they drop Grawp totally and (God Forbid) he's the one to defeat Voldemort by squishening in the book, then that would be problematic for the final movie.
