Umbridge's kitty plates are wonderful! Just as atrocious as I pictured them! There's one with a kitten wearing a blue scarf and hat that just kills me.

When the hell did the kid that plays Dean Thomas get so tall?

I too am disappointed in how Umbridge looks. She is supposed to look hella fat, and hella toadlike, what the hell happened?

I'm not worried about Umbridge's looks. I wanted Imelda Staunton (or Tracy Ullman) to portray her as soon as I finished the book. They can only do so much in the looks department. Hopefully she'll act the hell out of it.

I like how Staunton looks. OK, she's not as repulsive as Umbridge, but she's essentially short and round enough for me. Short of going all Jim Henson on her with prosthetics, it would have been hard to get a more "toadlike" look and I'd rather an actress who could convey toadlike with a flinty repulsive glance over a perfect physical appearance by a mediocre actress anyday.

I'd say she'll be really creepy. Stanton can really act. I have such high expectations of her that I'm almost afraid to see it!

And I love the tightly controlled pink little world she surrounds herself with. I love her big pink coat. The kitty plates. And the pot pourri! She's a total weapon who is absolutely sure that she's just a decent traditionalist at heart. The fact is, she may by not quite how WE pictured her, but she looks very like how Umbridge would picture HERSELF.

I agree. Staunton will be a pleasure to watch, and I have every confidence she will be smarmy as hell. Besides, I always half-pictured Roz from Monsters, Inc. as Umbridge in my mind, so anything short of a cartoon would be off to me.

Even if she doesn't look like probably most people pictured Umbridge, I bet Imelda'll put it all into her performance. I have confidence in La Staunton.

I am confident in her too. Maggie Smith looks nothing like I'd imagined McGonagall (I pictured someone like Anjelica Huston), but she's such a fabulous actress that I see and hear here now when I read the books.
