I think it looks pretty good. I like big-budget disaster flicks.

Even though Cruise has clearly gone round the twist, I think this looks awesome, and I cannot wait to see it!

I won't be seeing this. I haven't been impressed with anything Spielberg has done in a while. AI was absolutely dreadful and Minority Report had the capacity to be good, but lost something in translation and became an overprocessed bore. Most importantly, I hate Tom Cruise and I fear I might get sick if I'm trapped in a theater for two hours watching his face, complete with crazed eyes and creepy smile, on a huge screen. Also, the book and, to an extent, the first movie were about human nature and how it responds to the chaos that happens. This is just a big budget flick that's using aliens and explosions to make an extra dollar. Normally I'm okay with that, but I don't like the idea of taking a classic story, putting Tom Cruise in the center of it, and glossing over it Hollywood style.

Well, if I do see this, I'll buy a ticket for something else and sneak in. Speilberg and the crazy that is TC are not seeing a dime from me.

Did I read right in an article that Spielberg allowed a Church of Scientology tent to be erected onset during filming of this ? I don't know what the world is coming to , but I imagine all those wild eyed people in the trailer are staring agog at the second coming of L Ron Hubbard.

Spielberg is officially a castrated husk of a director.
And I won't see this at all. It just comes off as being an Americanized and updated version to Wells' work and honestly, if I wanted to see that I would just go out and see if I could get the old '90s TV series of the same name which has more gore to boot. I don't need to pay $10 to see some Clam Dwarf running around slightly shorter sets and around extras standing on their knees fighting the aliens.

Wasn't the original film an allegory about the Cold War? I can't remember. Nonetheless, as much as I love aliens hell-bent on destroying the Earth, I can't stomach Tom Cruise, especially in the role of the "everyman" turned hero. Ugh. And the fact that Spielberg is so beholden to his star as to allow a Scientology tent on the set seals the deal.

What's odd about this cataclysm of weird publicity so far is that it's waaaay in advance. If it's been this wacky so far, then g*d help us all in a month or two when the pr machine for this one reeeeeally kicks in.

I think he died way before the Cold War. I could be wrong, though. I'd rather see Cruise in a movie version of Call of Cthulhu, where he gets consumed by one of the Great Old Ones.
