I felt a bit uncomfortable when the son came back and Tom was holding his arms and gazing at him for a long time. I'm sure it was to imply "I am so glad you're okay. I love you, son." But, to me it was creepy. I wasn't sure if Tom was going to make out with his son or turn in to an alien himself and kill him.

I was too distracted by Tom's too tight jeans.

Tim Robbins was the best thing in this movie. I was half hoping he'd kill all of them. I'm sorry, but I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to buy that CTC could take out Tim Robbins. Isn't TR like a foot taller? He looks like he could pop CTC's head like a cherry tomato.

I hated how that part ended. I too was hoping Tim Robbins would wipe out all them and single-handedly save the day. I love Tim Robbins. He could snap CTC like a twig.

I think Robbins only lost because Cruise caught him by suprise with a shovel, and was sitting down. If the fight were fairer then Cruise would have been smushed. He actually lost in the struggle with the gun earlier, I think. So maybe Robbins character thought that was the end of that, and then got shovelled.

I saw this movie last year in the theater and then watched it again on TV today. Forgot about the lame ending. But the apocolyptic stuff does freak me out. It does capture some of the sense of terror at our extermination that the book has, for me. As for the floating clothes: while being very 9/11 creepy, it still freaked me out, because of that I guess. It is manipulative of Speilberg, but it's also a very cool movie device. In my defense, I am a sucker for apocolyptic movies.
And Ray's son? I find him disturbingly hot, considering how much younger he is than me. So much so, I googled him. He was born in 1982; I could almost be his mother.
Dammit, it's on again, and I"m watching it. Again. I still maintain that the floating-clothes death is pretty scary. Here''s what I didn't get: if they are drinking our blood, why are they spraying the fields with it too? And isn't their method of killing, (zapping each individual person) awfully time-consuming and labor intensive for such an advanced alien race? I need a hobby.

I finally, finally watched this, on HBO. I actually thought Dakota Fanning did a good job, and her whispering "Are we still alive?" when they were in the boiler room at her mother's house was spooky.
I see the Gay Midget wore his own lady-jeans throughout. Must have saved Wardrobe some money.
