I think the stupid thing is to try the "oh, we're so beyond doing a straight remake, so let's meta it up" angle. You can't pretend to be above a remake when you're doing one like this. And you're Nora Ephron, who completely trampled on The Shop Around The Corner. Regardless of how Bewitched fares, I think the dumb sitcom remake pinnacle will be next year with Kate Hudson in I Dream of Jeannie. Gawd. Oh, God. Don't remind me of You've Got Mail. I adore The Shop Around the Corner (as well as the stage musical adaptation She Loves Me and the Judy Garland remake In the Good Old Summertime). But You've Got Mail somehow managed to zap all of the charm out of the story. Kate Hudson is doing I Dream of Jeannie? Did I miss this? Or did I know and deliberately train myself to forget? Regarding the topic: I have no real desire to see Bewitched. I love the TV show (particularly the episodes with Darin #1--I think Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery had great chemistry), but the meta angle of the movie just seems lame.

I don't understand why they made Isabel (NK's character) a dumbass. It reminded me of that other crapfest, Meet Joe Black where the Devil doesn't know about peanut butter. It seemed, at times, like Isabel was from another planet (she actually asked "What is a dick?" at one point after a character insults Will Farrell's character) not that she was a witch. The breathy voice Nicole used grated as did her low-rent Carrie Bradshaw impression (I am just so helpless and wear cute outfits!).
The thing is, this was almost a decent film. A less mannered performance from Nicole Kidman (or another actress in the lead - I still think Reese Witherspoon would have been ideal) and a few changes to the script and you might have had a decent movie that wouldn't have annoyed the hell out of me. As it is, I would tell fans of Farrell, Kidman or any of the other people associated with the film to stay away (unless you have a thing for Jason Schwartzman - he looked smoking hot in the movie).
