It's getting some nasty reviews over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The reviews are really not kind to Gilliam's latest film however some critics can get it majorly wrong as I experienced with e.g. Tarnation (I thought it was foul) and Batman & Robin (didn't mind it at all, good fun).
Also downloaded the movie trailer from the official website and in one instance I can already agree with the critics. Matt Damon seems to switch between his american and the film's english accent far too easily. Visually it looks stunning though and so far Gilliam could do no wrong even considering The Adventures of Baron Münchhausen.
Bring it on!

Poor reviews!?! Ah crap. Oh well... I've totally been Matt Damon's bitca since Linus Caldwell. There's no turning back.
Plus, y'know Monica Belluci. I owe her one after my complete refusal to watch Rock'em Sock'em Jesus (tm not me).

The reviews are trickling in. So far, there are a limited number posted. And even then, a few from more prominent publications are raves. Maybe the final tomato-count will be fresher.
I'm seeing this. I love Gilliam's stuff. I love riffs on fairy tale. s And Lena Headey opposite Matt Damon? Must check this out.

During a flight I had the opportunity to read an article about this movie in Premiere. It gave me a good insight into the troubles Gilliam (as usual) gets during production. It was interesting to note that Damon brokered a deal between Gilliam and the Weinstein brothers when it came to either an additional 3m to the budget or a prosthetic nose. Also that this was supposed to be Gilliam's "sell-out movie" but couldn't lower himself to anything to Hollywood standards.
I obviously still haven't seen the movie but one quote stuck in my mind (can't remember the original wording though). "Its only a half a Gilliam movie but half is still better than most"

I read Matt Damon saying when he met with Terry Gilliam, the first thing he asked him was "Why isn't Johnny Depp doing this movie?" And Gilliam was like, "Because I want you to do it. You're my first choice." And Matt just stared at him for a while and finally Gilliam fessed up that Miramax wouldn't let him offer it to Johnny because they thought Johnny was too arthouse and not commercial enough. Then Pirates of the Caribbean came out while they were filming and Miramax was like, "Damn!"

Ha! Serves Miramax right, underestimating the Depp. It warms my cold, black heart to hear that this is a Johnny Depp kind of movie *actively avoids remembering Nick of Time*. Still, I suppose I can't begrudge them if they decided on Linus Caldwe - sorry, Matt Damon.

I read an advance review of this at work (I work at a paper)-- and talked to a couple people that have seen it already-- it's not sounding too good. Apparently it looks really cheap on the big screen, and has some wince-inducing slap-stick humor. I also heard that Matt Damon's accent is really inconsistent.

At least this is keeping up with Heath Ledger's string of bad flicks...although I've heard Lords of Dogtown isn't that bad.

Well, I just saw this last night and though it pains me to say it, this film definitely did not meet my expectations. The plot is surprisingly unoriginal. The second half of the film is far superior to the first half, which definitely lags. Matt Damon's accent was somewhat inconsistant, but it was much better than what I had anticipated from watching the trailers. Heath Ledger was somewhat misscast, but he did an okay job. Monica Belluci, who makes a fabulous evil queen, gets hardly any screen time and is criminally underused.
All in all it's a fun little movie, but doesn't hold a candle to "Time Bandits." And Garreth from "The Office" is in it! Which brightened me up considerably when I finally recognized him about a quarter of the way into the film. It does make me anxious to see "Tideland" though.
