I did a search and couldn't find this one. I believe it opens this weekend. I had no intention of seeing this, but have heard so much good word of mouth about how funny it was, some say it is stronger than Wedding Crashers, that I am now inclined to maybe give it a try. It looks like a one note comedy, but everyone I heard who has seen it says that it is very funny througout, even at 2 hours, and that it actually has some very strong supporting performances. I think I may find time for this one this week. Could there be room for two breakout comedies this summer ? PS I do admit a slight crush for Catherine Keener that I cannot rationally explain.

I'll probably see it eventually on dvd. What's appealing about it to me, from the trailers, is that the virgin's pals seem to genuinely want to help him out and are rooting for him. In this type of movie you'd normally see them being mocking and malicious. I'm just going by the trailer, of course.
I read one review that called the ending "audacious." I'd love to find out what it is... Maybe for some reason he's been lying about being a virgin the whole time? Maybe he gets this close to having sex with the girl then has the revealation that he's gay?

I've been waiting for this for months, and I'll be there this weekend, since I'm a huge Steve Carell fan (see my obsequiousness in the Celebrities section). But aside from that, the movie has been getting high praise. Ebert and Roeper gave it "Two Thumbs Way Up" (FWIW), and some guy in Newsweek called it "A first-ballot Hall of Fame sex comedy."
By all accounts, it's tremendously funny, but also warm and sweet. I hope it's a huge success.

It looks good, but as I posted in the Carell thread, the marketing seems to be saying 40 year old virgin=bissfully ignorant smiling manchild. The movie looks better than that.

Looks like it could be high-larious. I'm hoping to guilt my husband into taking me to see it this weekend, since he'll be out of town for my birthday next Friday. Wait, does it open this weekend or next? Seems like a jillion movies are coming out on my birthday (the 26th), can't remember if this is one of them.
My favorite part of the promotion for this movie is the way the Daily Show (and possibly other shows) puts the little introductory caption on the screen that says Paul Rudd--"The 40 Year-Old Virgin" or Steve Carrell--"The 40 Year-Old Virgin". (As if someone as hot as Paul Rudd was even an 18 year-old virgin!)
If I was a producer of a talk show that had guests promoting films and shows, I'd ONLY do captions like that if the name and title combination would be insulting or funny. Then I'd pray for someone to do an adaptation of Dostoyevsky's "The Idiot" and hope they'd cast actors like Tom Cruise and John Travolta--or a film called "Famewhore" with Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson, just so I could have a giggle with the captions.

foxy epicurean, it indeed opens tomorrow. And I'm thankful, because I want to see a lot of what starts next weekend, too. Saturday, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, next week The Constant Gardener!
I understand what you're saying, tommytimp, but SC on all the talk shows has gone out of his way to say that there's nothing wrong with the character -- he's not a freak or damaged or anything -- he's just had some bad experiences and stopped trying. He's also said he (and his 5-year-old daughter) thinks the poster is "creepy."
Maybe he agrees, and thinks the marketing sucks.

Yeah, that probably wouldn't be the best double feature. (Although, my brother thinks The Passion of the Christ and Monty Python's Life of Brian DVDs should be packaged together as a boxed set, so whatever floats your boat.)
Thanks for the scheduling confirmation, Baseball Girl. I'm starting to get excited about this flick, and not just because Paul Rudd has been my pretend boyfriend since 1995ish.

I can't wait for this. I think it looks hilarious and I think Steve Carell is very sexy (I don't question why I have the hots for him).
For me, the marketing is totally working. It looks funny and sweet and I plan on seeing it tomorrow. I know a few guys who think it looks too "sweet" so I hope it gets the audience it deserves (assuming it is as good as the reviews say).

Yeah, the movie does look pretty good, but the poster and the ads make him look like a smiling blissful blah blah blah. Marketing departments suck, is what I'm saying. I'm up here, guys.

Yeah, nothing tics me off more than an ad or commercial that talks down to the consumer. I want to see this movie, but *only* because I like the cast (Carell, Keener... Rudd? Awesome!) and the reviews have been alarmingly good-- if I had only seen the ads and TV spots, I think I would be turned off enough to not want to see it.
