I was thinking about it again this morning, and I realized how much I loved the scene where Carell tried tried to pick up the girl in the bookshop. The other character told him to act like David Caruso in Jade. Such an understated bit of comedy, and so funny.
ETA: It's also nice to see Jane Lynch in a movie, even if Christopher Guest didn't direct it.

I had planned on waiting for this movie on DVD, but maybe I'll wait a day or two, read some CPMoG reviews, and go see it. I'm intrigued. I think it's worth the price of admission. You know, when you see a movie and it's obvious that they're just sleepwalking through the Hollywood formula for a summer comedy? Well, this is NOT that movie. It's almost an overpacked suitcase of funny. The characters are all nicely fleshed-out. The story matters. The movie doesn't go for the easy humiliation of anybody. And I loved that. Sure, it mocks their quirks, but it's got a really decent heart. Steve Carell looks like Ellen Degeneres crossbred with Eugene Levy. And he's terrific.

It was about five minutes after the credits ended before I could catch my breath from laughing so hard, my face soaked with tears. I have not laughed that hard (and often!) in a long, long time.
I need to see it again, because I missed half of it from laughing.

I waffled on whether to see this or not, but then I learned that Judd Apatow (formerly of Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared) co-wrote and directed it. Paul Rudd sealed the deal (oh how I wish I could be saying that for reals.)
It does drag in parts, but otherwise it's the funniest studio comedy I've seen in years. The chest waxing scene is so hilarious, for me, because you can tell the other actors are really laughing/trying to hold it in.
And the ending scene? Priceless.

I saw it on Sunday, and loved it. Unfortunately, I've already forgetten one of my favourite lines, and I wanted to use it today.
It's an early scene between Paul Rudd's character and Paula the store manager. He uses a line from a Michael McDonald song and says that he's going to shoot everyone in the store and burn it down if she doesn't switch the DVD. Can anyone remember that song lyric? That line, and Paula's reaction was one of the funniest moments for me.

Exactly! I loved that about the movie. Weird as it is to say, this movie seemed more 'real' than most of the comedies I've seen.
And it had an Office Space flavor to some of the scenes where the men were hanging out. Did the Office Space writers work on this movie some?
I want to see it again and I want to take everyone I know to go see it. Everyone EXCEPT my mom. That would be embarrassing!

I saw this last night and LOVED it! I don't know if I've ever laughed that much at a movie before. I laughed so hard and so often that I gave myself a headache. We stuck around after the credits hoping for outtakes, but no love. Which means I'll be buying the DVD the second it comes out.

There are a few clips on the official website that aren't in the movie. Man, I cannot remember the last time I spent time at the official website for a movie hoping for extra clips. It helps that I love Carell, Keener, and Rudd, but the movie was just so sweet and funny. I want to see more. I am glad this is shaping up to be a hit. I would have been disappointed if there had been room for only one R-rated raunchy comedy this summer.
