On the posters, Steve looks like he's doing an impression of Ellen DeGeneres. That's HER expression he's channeling.

I kind of like the print ad just with Carell and his blissful expression, it never fails to make me smile when I see it passing me on a bus. I have really enjoyed him on the Daily Show, The Office and Anchorman, so am looking forward to seeing this as well.
OT: ThursdayNext, I love your Pete/Dud "Bedazzled" avatar. Such a great film.

This is a question for anyone who has seen the movie. Why does Steve Carrell's character scream "Kelly Clarkson" whilst being manscaped? Is it something he does, like a nervous tic? Is it just something random thrown in there to make the scene funnier? Or did I just make that up. Maybe he wasn't saying that at all. Can someone clarify?

I haven't seen the movie, but from the trailer I assumed it was because he was screaming, and Kelly Clarkson likes to really scream in her songs. I could be wrong though.

That would be AWESOME, foxy! Except POTC wouldn't see any play in my house, but the dichotomy is perfect! I had planned on waiting for this movie on DVD, but maybe I'll wait a day or two, read some CPMoG reviews, and go see it. I'm intrigued.

TTMR and I went and saw this, and we really enjoyed it. It was really funny and sweet. The chest waxing scene was frickin' hilarious. In that scene he is cursing a blue streak, and I think he shouts "Kelly Clarkson!" because it's one of the only other bad words he can think of. (I do that too, except I shout "Julia Roberts!") Steve Carell completely sells it -- his character arc was very believable. The supporting cast was also really good too.
I liked it better than Wedding Crashers.

Thanks for the explanation Ripley. I think "KellyClarkson" just became my new favourite curse word.

I thought it was great. I am pretty much a sucker for this type of movie (a "guy movie" with a mushy, "girly" center) and it did not disappoint. I thought some of the bits went on for a little too long (the chest waxing and the drunk driving date stuff could have ended a little sooner) but that is really a small quibble.
I also thought it was better than Wedding Crashers. The romance in this movie worked much better than the main romance in Wedding Crashers. I really ended up caring for Steve Carell and Catherine Keener's characters and that didn't really happen with Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams in Wedding Crashers. In terms of comedy, I think that The 40 Year Old Virgin keeps the laughs coming far longer (pretty much all through the movie) than Wedding Crashers did (I thought WC trailed off and never regained its comedic momentum after Vaughan and Wilson left the secretary's house). Not to say I didn't like Wedding Crashers, but The 40 Year Old Virgin is comparable in terms of raunch and laughs, but it is funnier and better, imo.
Plus, this movie has one of the greatest endings that I have ever seen... ever!
Thanks Welshgrrl. I lurve Peter Cook.

I just saw it and I'm wishing the ending went on for a bit longer. It was great. I need some of my friends to see this so that I can talk about it! now!

I loved this movie so much. The ending was just spectacular, and the music throughout was excellent. Theme from Greatest American Hero? Awesome!!
The supporting cast was great, and I really liked that the movie was raunchy and funny, but sweet at the same time. Also, the manscaping scene was absolutely hilarious. I'm so buying this when it comes out on DVD.
