I saw it at the discount theatre over the weekend. The place was damn near full, even though this movie has been out for a few months!
Very funny stuff.

Ok. So Santa brought us Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which we already had, so I took it back to WalMart and got The 40 Year Old Virgin by default.
It had some really funny bits (chest waxing, the toe-sucking thing, the Pakistani guys); but overall, it wasn't THE. FUNNIEST. MOVIE. EVER. as some of my friends proclaimed. It had it's moments, and it was very sweet in parts, but I didn't like it as much as say, Dodgeball.
Overall, it's a renter, not a buyer, and I kind of wish I had gone with The Exorcism of Emily Rose. JMHO.

I just watched this and....yeah. It was not funny AT ALL. I can pretty much say I hated it. Not even the chest waxing part, which I guess was supposed to be the most hi-larious gag in the movie, made me even crack a smile. And why the hell was it sooooooo long?! God damn, it really didn't need those extra 18 minutes. Can ya'll tell I didn't like it .

I'm going with Ladymadonna that it was amusing but not the bestest, funniest movie evah! that my friends had hyped it to me.

I really liked this movie. I think the whole "bestest, funniest movie evah" reputation came from the dearth of good and sweet comedies. When you have one, it's the best.
I know someone so similar to Paul Rudd's character I find it extra hilarious.

This movie was actually one of my favorites of the year (in terms of pure entertainment and enjoyment) but even I didn't think it was the funniest thing... ever! I thought it kept up the comedy in a way that Wedding Crashers didn't and liked that a lot of the humor was character based rather than purely situational and I thought that Steve Carell perfect in the role of Andy. I agree with Binky in that it was the sweetness rather than the humor that really made me love this movie more than other comedies, but it doesn't touch stuff like Dodgeball for straight-up laughs.
True! I didn't catch all 18 minutes of extra footage but what I did catch stopped the narrative flow completely (the funny but really unnecessary face-off between Paul Rudd and the younger Pakastani guy after Andy runs out of the store) or made a funny joke less funny (the stuff with the porn star during Andy's "date with himself"). I don't understand why they put most of that stuff back in - nothing was enhanced or made funnier, imo. Although the DVD did extremely well (like 2 million sold the first day, I think) so perhaps they were on to something.

This movie was way better than Wedding Crashers, in my opinion. It was consistently funnier, and my boyfriend and I find ourselves quoting it more often than the other movie--particularly the scene at Planned Parenthood and the "You know how I know you're gay..." bit. Plus the wedding at the end made sense, while the final wedding scene in WC was...bizarre.
"Oh, please, Seth, you have a TINY penis!" ;D

Just saw this for the first time last night. It's one of the first times I've ever watched every last extra on a DVD. Usually I say "Eh, it's late, forget it."
Not this time. I wanted more ... MORE! More of the chest waxing scene! (Although, as a woman who loves hairy chests and is married to a man who resembles a bear, that was painful to watch.)
In a strange way, it reminded me a little of South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut in its cheerful use of profanity. No messing around with "Are we going to go for a PG-13 rating" for these guys, and God bless 'em for it.
Oh, and Steve Carrell? If I didn't love him before, I adore him now. I would so hit that.

Just saw this one for the first time last night. Not the funniest thing I've ever seen but I definitely laughed out loud.
Steve Carrell was lovely and the supporting characters were awesome (love Paul Rudd and "Cal").
I also loved the "You're gay, no you're gay" segments...which makes me about 12.
