I didn't expect to like it, but I really did. It was really sweet. And I love that while SC's character was nerdy, he wasn't completely socially backward -- he got in some good zingers and was a well-rounded character.
I thought the dialogue was great too -- it didn't seem like the characters were coming up with "snappy" dialogue clearly written by a scriptwriter, they talked like real people. I so know guys that talk like them.
And, for my inner 12-year-old, there was the "You know how I know you're gay" bit, and normally "gay" jokes make me roll my eyes. I love the extended version on the DVD.
Wow. I put way too much thought into this.

They actually put out two versions--the one with the big "UNRATED" stamp on the front has the extra 18 minutes. The unstamped box has the cut shown in theaters. (I have to admit, I have both versions.)
This was the first film that actually got me into a theater in four years and I loved it! It's been a long time since I laughed that hard for that long.

I found out about the two versions after I bought the unrated one. To be fair, I probably would have bought the one with extra footage anyway, but I was a little disappointed with most of the extra content (and surprised by how much I recognized as "extra" - I usually can't tell).

I'm a big fat nerd because I JUST saw this movie this weekend. I just wanted to chime in on the love. It's the best movie I've seen in a long, long time.
Oh, and is it weird that I have the HUGEST crush on Steve Carrell? I think it started when I saw him flounce around New York in shorty-short jean cutoffs for The Daily Show.

No apologies necessary, JenniPoo. Steve Carell is hot, hot, hot -- beautiful eyes, wonderful smile, killer sense of humor. He and Nancy Walls make a gorgeous couple. Mr. Sunnyhorse and I almost never see full-price movies, preferring to wait a bit and see things at the $3 theater (as we did this one), but we would gladly have paid full price to see "Virgin" -- it was that good.

Oh God...I think I blocked that from my memory! It's all coming back though... I was always lusting after Jon on the Daily Show, but there was something so endearing about SC in this movie that made him adorable. But I still think I would take Paul Rudd's crazy ass, because he is pretty much the hottest stepbrother ever.

I thought Paul Rudd was cute too, until I saw his pasty fish belly self at the end of FYoV. Ew.

Fish-belly...heh. Yeah, that was pretty gross. I read somewhere, though, (probably here) that they wanted him to be doughy? As if to say, "you don't have to be cool or attractive to get laid! Look at these guys!"

I thought it was funny that Steve Carell was pretty much the hottest guy in the group. Romany Malco had his moments though (maybe it was the Hammer dance at the end!), but Steve looked far more attractive than Seth Rogan and the usually adorable Paul Rudd. I can imagine that the filmmakers were trying to push the point that Andy hadn't not gotten laid because he was physically gross but because he had tons of other issues at play (Carell has pretty much said as much where Andy is concerned - not sure if that extended into the looks of the other cast members, though).

Oh man, I don't care what you say, I love Seth Rogen so much. It probably helped that I watched Undeclared before watching The 40-Year-Old Virgin.) I'd do him (or Cal) before I'd do Steve Carell (or Andy). And I do like Steve Carell, but Seth Rogen, eeee. But then I love pasty, pudgy (or scrawny) nerds. And it probably helps that Rogen is two years older than I am, whereas Carell is twice my age.
