I can't link all the photos, but I used to follow Kate's street style for years and it was glorious. She very clearly selected and purchased her own wardrobe. Lots of vintage pieces in there. She knew exactly how to put outfits together to look chic. She started a lot of trends. And the most amazing thing was that she would re-wear things on a daily basis and keep the pieces in her wardrobe for years and years. I can't tell you how refreshing that is. Every celebrity now has a stylist or a fashion house who gives them an outfit for a premiere and they wear it once, have no connection to it, never see it again, and it's on to the next thing. It feels so disposable. And Kate, on the other hand, would pull out a beautiful seafoam green gown that Galliano gave her to wear on her 21st birthday and lend it to Sadie Frost for her wedding to Jude Law, and then rewear it to another great party years later. That's how fashion should be - with some personal value invested in it. She did spend several years ripping off Marianne Faithfull's 60s wardrobe and her look did eventually get repetitive. She lost her mojo. But in the 90s and early aughts she was killing it. Isn't she the one who said there's nothing that tastes as good as being thin feels? That probably played a hand in how the media played off of her body. She said it in 2009 though, which was about 10 years after "Kate Moss is too skinny" stopped being a thing. I remember when I was growing up, a neighbor who was always on a diet had that expression on a magnet on her fridge, so it's not new. People just don't want fashion industry people saying out loud that body size matters and being thin is preferable.

I guess that’s what I don’t understand about modeling—it’s one to naturally look a certain way, but I don’t get the claims about how she had a great sense of style. At the risk of sounding dull and parochial, isn’t her job to wear looks curated by other people, from hair to garments, and even evoke a certain asked-for posture? How much of a modeling career is the model’s intentional choices and how much is the work imposed by other people? Well, I was speaking of her personal style, not what I’ve seen her wear in photos/on the runway. And I’ve seen plenty of models and celebs with awkward personal style, so I’m inclined to believe that Kate’s is her own. I’m sure she’s heavily influenced by her designer friends, but I guess that would be true for most people in the fashion industry. I’ve always thought she still had a way of making things her own. eta: I somehow missed Ginger’s last post before this. She said it much better than I did!

I could have sworn I heard radio djs talking about her saying that back when I was in high school. (Not saying the date is wrong, just that I feel like I've associated her with that quote for way longer. I can't even figure out why I would register that with her if she didn't say it until 2009.)

I swear I thought that quote came from Wallis Simpson, but she’s the one who said, “You can never be too rich or too thin.”
I think late-stage capitalism has proved her wrong.

I’m on mobile so I can’t link, but I remember Kate wearing shorts and black Hunter boots in the mud at Glastonbury...15 years ago?...and Hunters took off, at least for my little bubble in the US. When I think of her personal style, I think of that.

I think Sienna Miller doing a bad imitation of Kate's Marianne Faithfull imitation is what caused the whole thing to jump the shark.

I remember Vanity Fair in the 90s blowing smoke up Pete Doherty's ass calling him and Kate the new Keith and Marianne. Then a year later there was some article where people were pearl clutching about Kate's drug use and slamming her and Pete for - wait for it - being the new Keith and Marianne. That's about the time I stopped subscribing to Vanity Fair.

I thought this was interesting, Kate's daughter Lila Moss walks the runway with her insulin pump seen. Diabetes awareness is needed BUT how is Lila already being described as a SUPER MODEL? Moderators could we get a Nepotism thread somewhere? Edited to add, the link I saw elsewhere described Lila as a super model but the linked page story doesn't. I still would like a Nepotism thread, there's so many adult kids of STARS to discuss.

Oops, the link I saw for it elsewhere described Lila as a supermodel but the actual page doesn't.
