I was a little put off, even at the ripe old age of 10 by some of the trite, inane lyrics that she put together ("There's got to be a way" is the first that comes to mind).

You were way cooler than me. I got that album my freshman year of high school and thought that "There's Got to Be a Way" was so inspirational. *Smacks self in head* Ugggggh. I started to jump ship by "Butterfly" even though I liked a couple of those songs. I don't know...I used to such a big fan of hers that I always have high hopes whenever she releases an album. We'll see. Between the chorus of "It's Like That" and Sarah Jessica's Gap ad both being stuck in my head at different times, I may go mad.

I was a bright 10-year-old. Not to mention, I had bossy parents. I understood what preaching felt like, and I got enough of it from my folks. It really sucked having to hear it on my albums, too. I was using those to get AWAY from the parental units.

Not that I didn't think Mariah was right, per se. But Christ, if you're a political activist, get some better material. ("Luka" by Suzanne Vega or "Sally's Pigeons" from Cyndi Lauper come to mind as better material)

Mariah needs to realize that if it takes that much airbrushing to make her look good in pictures it's time to step away from the cheesecake shoots. I mean, does anybody really need to see M pose in her underwear anymore? Certainly not I.

ITA about the airbrushing - this is hilarious, as bad as Britney's Greatest Hits album cover. There is no way in hell her thighs are that small.

Holy shit, OhNoSheDidnt! You were not playing!! I am in love with this album. I didn't (and still don't) care for all that whispering on "It's Like That," but the rest of the album is so, so much better. The belting!!

I don't really know that it will sell a ton of copies though. A lot of the material sounds straight out of the early 90s (which is why I love it), and I can see today's kids thinking it sounds dated.

I downloaded the album a few hours ago and listened to it. It is solid. The first half of the album is stronger than the second half. I did not hear a lot of belting and the ballads are weak, which is a disappointment.

My favorites: It's Like That, We Belong Together, Shake It Off, Mine Again, Say Somethin', Get Your Number

I give it a B.
