Opens July 28th and the buzz has been bad until lately. AICN, Movie City News and a few others are actually giving this good to great reviews.
The official site is fully operational now and the clips are, I hate to say this, making me think this won't be Worst. Movie. Ever.
Colin Farrell still looks greasey though and that's never good.

I said way back in the day that Michael Mann was/is kinda a smart choice for a "remake" - since he was behind the show, but also could do it grittier. I dunno why this got the "worst movie ever" buzz in the first place - the shoot was troubled, but so are a lot of ones.
I am becoming a major spoilerphone and am trying to avoid finding out exactly how the Foxx Divatude changed the film.
From seeing the trailer, I don't care how greasy or bad Colin looks - I am so, so, so there for Gong Li. The woman looks flawless and half her age. And supersexy. Plus she majorly won me over in Memoirs.

This looks like hot, buttered poo. Maybe this should go in the unpopular movie opinions thread, but I don't hate Colin Farrell. I actually thought he was rather good in Home at the End of the World. Jamie Foxx, on the other hand, is hugely annoying. I liked him in Any Given Sunday, but with all the rumours about his attitude now, I'm beginning to think the role wasn't much of a stretch. It just seems...unneccesary.

I don't care how they "reimagine" it, if it's not what's-his-name and Don Johnson in pastel clothing with Johnson sporting a mullet, it ain't Miami Vice. I hope they're thinking that teenagers and people who DON'T remember the TV show in all its tooly 80's glory show up because I sure as hell won't be there. And I go to all sorts of dumbass movies. This one, I'll be sitting out of, thank you very much.

I hope this flops.
I can't stand Jamie Foxx or Colin Farell. Although I must admit that with everything I've heard about Foxx lately, Farell doesn't seem that bad in comparison.
The only thing that makes this film interesting is Gong Li. But I don't think I could take putting up with Foxx and Farell for two hours just to see her performance.
With a budget of 150 million and an R rating I won't be surprised if this film fails commercially.

nusan, that sums up my feelings too. Not even Gong Li is enough to make me go see this film, especially if the violence is as nasty and gratuitous as some are saying.

I liked Collateral and early reviews have compared this to Scorcese's upcoming The Departed (a remake of Infernal Affairs), so I'll probably check it out.

I was planning on seeing it all along, mainly because of Ciaran Hinds and Gong Li. I'm just glad the reviews are starting to pick up. I think the running time is well over 2 hours too, although can't find a link to confirm it. ETA: 2 hours and 26 mins

Well personally I am dying to see it. Colin isn't as eye pleasing as he usually is, but I do think he's really talented. Add to that Michael Mann, Gong Lee and Ciaran Hinds and I'm really excited. The only downside is Foxx. I'm really over him.

I saw the trailer before PoTC, and I have to admit they did a great job with it. Is that the original Tubbs spraying gunfire? Still not going to go see it though. Give me Clerks 2.
