I'm very confused about the plastic surgery issue. When I look at her features in comparison to older pictures, I absolutely cannot see any difference - the nose looks the same, and so on. But when I look at the big picture, she looks like a completely different person, and I can't put my finger on what exactly changed. It sort of looks like the upper area of her cheeks that is near the nose is a bit different. She did lose a bit of weight, but it looks like a lot of it came off her face.
She doesn't strike me as someone who would get a nose job. I have nothing against them, by the way. But she looked the same for many years, and didn't diet herself to size 0 like all of Hollywood. She became famous and respected with the nose she had, and, being the smart cookie she is, I doubt she'd change much about her appearance. She also never brought up anything she disliked about her appearance.

The sad thing? I was physically looking *directly at* the IMDB page of her noms when I typed in the "correction". My mind wants to block out the Helen Hunt win soooo much that I've started lying to myself and figured that Kate wasn't even nominated. Plus, I need sleep.
But no, I had to get the stupid idea to watch the commentary and have thus delayed my nap. She's not on it nearly enough so far.
It is the "big picture" that is striking to me as well, Margo. The thing that amazes me is that if she *has* had surgery, it's clearly amazing work - subtle, refined, etc. - and if this kind is available to people in Hollywood, why so many get crappy Botox high-forehead facelift tight, pinched, collagen-injected Barbie faces.

I truly think that people look different after having children. Hell, I look different after LilB. I don't think she has had anything done, I think that pregnancy subtly changes your features.

I think I'm mostly just jealous that she's become so much more beautiful as she's got older! Her features really seem to have refined. And if she had had subtle amounts of plastic surgery, why wouldn't she have had some work on the bags under her eyes and the crow's feet that can be criticised?
She's never seemed like a bandwagon actress so I do hope she's had nothing done, I like to look up to her and the likes of Emma Thompson as sexy, incredible women just as they are.

She has gotten prettier. In fact, when she was younger I never quite got the squee factor that so many of her fans have. Now, she just looks beautiful... even her weird smile has grown on me (there was something about the way her top lip curled that I didn't like). Imho, I don't think she's had surgery. I think she's slimmed down quite a bit (thankfully, not too much i.e. ana territory) and I think it really effected (affected... jeez, I never know) her face.

I think she looks older, that's all.
HEavenly Creatures was done a long time ago. If you compare pictures of me to pictures of myself in my late teens/early twenties, I don't even look like the same person, and I guarantee you I have not had one lick of plastic surgery. My face doesn't have that chubby youthful glow anymore and my eyebrows are a different shape. Plus, I wear my makeup differently. Add in a new hairstyle and even I have to admit I look like a totally different person. But people who even see me now versus my wedding picture of five years ago didn't know it was me and the only thing that changed was my hair.

I don't think she's had plastic surgery. I think she's just grew into her face, and lost weight. She's so beautiful. I think Oscar's don't mean much. Helen Hunt and Julia Roberts both have one. I think it's an overrated popularity contest not an award of talent.
I loved her in Eternal Sunshine. She's just awesome.

I don't see any difference in her face that's not due to an additional 10-13 years and 20 fewer pounds.
I still don't like it. Her mouth is this giant rectangle that curves downward. It's a minor complaint though.

Well, now I feel bad about myself. Ever since she got well known after Titanic, people tell me I smile just like her. I don't try to smile weird! It just happens.

Aw...I think it's nice and charming to see a smile that looks a bit different than the regular toothpaste one.
