At this point I'm assuming she's not going to win, a) because the person who is Totally Definitely Going To Win in September According To Oscarwatch.com Posters hardly ever wins, and b) because hello, it's Kate. Kate doesn't win ANYTHING. She's been nominated for forty billion awards and has won, like...two. If she does end up winning, I'll be incredibly thrilled (fangirl!), but I'm going to assume she won't. Less disappointing that way. Pretty!

Hitchcock, etc. never got anything besides an honorary Oscar either. Okay, I thought people's spec about a nosejob and/or other work was just that -speculation - until I saw the pic of Kate inside the new EW. She looks gorgeous but I barely recognize her. The extreme light/dark contrast in the photo might not be helping, but man, half of her face looks like Mena Suvari almost. Thankfully, she looks like herself on the cover.

Don't blaspheme! She has NEVER had work done. Lalala, I can't hear you........
I think it's just the shadows or their airbrushing. Magazines piss me off something fierce with their airbrushing. I just saw the most hysterical picture of Rachel Ray in TV Guide- they reduced the size of her ass by at least half! She looks as thin as any cover model in the picture!

But magazines tend to airbrush cover shots more so and more extremely than interior ones. (sidenote: In Style has the worst airbrushing EVER known to man and succeeds in making the most gorgeous women look like crap. Even their ScarJo cover sucks!) It's just an odd photo all around. Side by side for those better at such things: Kate in the long-ago filmed All the King's Men versus her at the recent premiere. I feel like it's subtle but it is a bit less bulbous. But I could be wrong. Hey, why don't we have any plastic surgeons on the board for expert opinions? If anyone knows any, I feel like they should invite them, esp. for that thread. I'm kinda surprised she didn't win yet - esp. since she's had two for supporting, which is usually *all* about hot young ingeniues. It is premature, though. I have no idea how good The Departed is but Scorcese's still waiting for a statue. I still want both C/Kate to win leads and not supporting, but I don't think it really matters that much. They're both extraordinarily talented and don't get caught up in such things.

I believe Kate had plastic surgery. When I saw the movie Heavenly Creatures I thought she was homely. Now, great-looking. She's a great actor and I really like her but plastic surgery.

This is a pretty unpopular opinion, but I don't think Winslet should have won an Oscar by now and I am not even sure she deserved all of her nominations. She was just average in Sense and Sensibility and Titanic. I wouldn't have given her a nomination for either.

She's still very pretty but am I the only one who thinks she looks older than 31? All that smoking is catching up with her.

She wasn't nominated for Titanic, twodollars, so moot point. I wouldn't have given her a nom for that movie as well. I never know what 31 is "supposed" to look like, but porcelain skin, to me, tends to make women still gorgeous even as they noticeably age (Kidman, Julianne, etc.) I rarely see Kate in pap pictures or Us's Star Flaws (because she's not, you know, Paris Hilton), though, so it's hard to judge. Ooooohhh, I have the DVD but haven't watched it (i.e. the special features) yet - I should so listen to her commentary and see if it sways me on her from like to absolute love. Wow, I just now noticed that Cameron put himself on the cover art, ruining it from matching the poster. Fucking ego much, tool. This nose issue is totally going to eat away at me, though. I look at stills from Little Children and it's all I can focus on. Kate, stop distracting me from pretty Patrick Wilson with your maybe/maybe-not plastic surgery! Okay, I'm convinced - this shot is lit like a publicity still and doesn't seem like from the movie itself -- entirely smaller nose to my eyes.

But in that case, Helen Hunt shouldn't have gotten it, either. It should have gone to Dame Judi Dench-she WAS Queen Victoria in Mrs. Brown. I loved Kate in Sense and Sensibility-that's my favorite Austen book, and my favorite Austen movie so far.

Actually she was nominated for Titanic. I'm still on the fence about a nose job.. Screen captures from Heaveny Creatures vs. recent pics in Toronto: onetwothreeThe bridge does look a bit thinner, but her face is thinner now. If she did have something done it was very subtle.
