I guess I am saying that it is just one person's account, and you never know with those kind of stories posted on message boards.
Hell, it could be true for all I know, I'm just saying, you know, grain of salt and all that.

Exactly. One person's story and one person's side of the story. Since that's the only story I've ever heard about Kate being a bitch, I'm not going to completely change my opinion of her just yet. Unless I hear more stories like that, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt.
Very true.

I'm with Kate on this. I think it's creepy for someone who doesn't know someone else to call that person by name. It's aggressive or presumptuous or something.
If they had said something like "Hello" to her and then told her they liked her acting or something and THEN she was snooty I would say she was snooty.
I think she's just maintaining boundaries

I've read about 5 bitchy Kate stories, 2 on messageboards and 2 others as passing mentions on other sites and one in the flesh from a work colleague. Nothing major, just more of her giving people the evil eye on film sets and 2 instances of impatient harumphing at people on the street.
It's funny how seriously people are taking this! I'm sure most celebrities theatrically ignore plebs on film sets. I'd be surprised if she didn't act like a Stah, she is one. I don't like her anyhow, so the negativity doesn't bother me much.

Well would it have hurt if she had just smiled and said hello? I mean that's not too much to ask.

jdkwfan4ever, I don't imagine it's not too much at all so say hello. Even the Nod would surfice.
But my thought is that people are stirred about this because for some reason Kate Winslet is one of those celebrities whom her fans not just like, but admire. But in reality, she's not a former chubby 16-year-old made good and thus normal, inspite of what she says in her interviews. She's an A-List Hollywood actress and I'm not surprised that she carries a lot of that baggage - being in the "moment", surrounded by assisstants, ignoring extras - with her. In reality, she may well be in as much rarefied air as Ashley Judd and Sharon Stone and those other Hollywood divas, but disguises it better in interviews and on the red carpet.

Just goes to show you, you should never put anyone on a pedestal.

I don't think it's putting her on a pedestal to think she'd be reasonably polite to people in public.
I don't have any personal feelings about the possibility of Kate being a raging bitch, it just goes against everything I'd ever heard about her. Just a couple of weeks ago, I read a blurb about her buying shoes in New Orleans and the salesgirl was raving about how unusually nice and down-to-earth Kate was. I don't keep careful track, but it seems all the stories I've read about Kate have been of the "she's sooooo nice" variety, so I'm not going to suddenly believe she's a snooty bitch who is randomly mean to people based on one anonymous message board message. If I hear a whole bunch more stories like that, then sure.

The only stories I've ever heard about her being snotty came from The Mirror, right around the time of her divorce, when they were all pissy because she wasn't giving them any dirt. That's it.
Maybe she's just moody. Maybe these girls were the type to giggle and stare the whole time, and were being really annoying. Who knows?

Ah, the magic of PR and public perception. This is why I could never deal with being a celeb. PR really exists so we don't know how boring/dumb/crazy/deluded celebs really are.
Kate probably isn't a raging bitch, but she probably isn't a perfect angel, either. Just like with Gwyneth I want to scream "Shut up!" every time I read one of her interviews, and yet I find her kinda charming on talk show appearances. In reality, she probably is rather tiresome with her self-importance, but she's also not without her charms and seems like she has at least a decent sense of humor.
And like everyone else, so much probably depends on mood and situation. Kate probably has no problem being polite and chatty with a nice sales clerk while she's relaxing and shopping, but gets snotty when she's on the set working and has decided she doesn't want to deal with people.
I love Kate and find these stories disappointing, but I always remember that my grandpa was right when he said most people aren't as good or as bad as they seem - except Tom Cruise. He's batshit crazy.
