As others have said she doesn't look like herself anymore. Perhaps with new brows she at least resembles herself more but she still looks drastically different.
Though I'm rolling my eyes at her statement. Honey, your eyes don't look like now due to inner peace. It's because you got surgery. Own it and stop insulting people's intelligence!

It's obvious that she's had something done, but that's her business. If she wants to address it, deny it, evade questions about it, that's her business too. Plastic surgery, even when it's obvious, is still medical and private. I don't think the public deserves any explanation for her different appearance and she isn't obligated to give one.
If I were ever asked by a relative stranger about why I look the way I do, I'd probably give an evasive, BS-type answer too.

Yet I'd rather she'd just say nothing and not dignify the whispers with a response (which is what many actors seem to do).

The reason I disagree with this is because A- she's an actress, going to a red carpet event (it's not like she was papped on the street, having dinner with friends or something -I think there is a huge difference here) where essentially she trades on name recognition- which she gets from- dun dun dun- how she LOOKS. B- More importantly, this is what perpetuates ageism for women in Hollywood, that so many people get things "done" and never talk about it. This turns so easily into the expectation that in films, the entertainment industry, women never age- because they aren't supposed to.
It gives (in my opinion) an impression of shame and also desperation in regards to the aging process for women. That's not going to change with all of these Hollywood women going under the knife- then expecting to be considered beautiful, and yet also being frustrated that there are weird expectations for older women in the business. It feeds the beast, and I don't respect that.

She would have naturally aged quite well, I think.
I remember first seeing her on Rosie O'Donnell's big Tom Cruise extravaganza and not finding her all that appealing. Just awkward and not very engaging. but then she hosted SNL and blew my mind with how great she was. Her monologue had that season's funniest joke (her "diary" entry about working with Meryl Streep: "If that bitch farts one more time and doesn't own up to it, I am going to scream!") and remains the only guest host that appeared in the Hardball spoof who held their own with Darrell Hammond's Chris Matthews. I always liked her after that and I still think Cold Mountain is up there with Glory as one of the best Civil War movies ever.
So yeah, this is just kind of sad but I understand how it could happen.

She was amazing in Cold Mountain. And oh, that's when she dated Jack White, and he was so hot in that movie. She really has the oddest track record of romances, though.

The idea of obliterating your identity for the unending and fruitless pursuit of youth scares me.
Not sure if that's the case for her. Hollywood does not promote healthy views. I know, I know...No duh, InnocentOne!

Wow, this was a really intelligent and (no pun intended) eye-opening piece. Thanks for sharing it.

I legit did not recognize her when I saw the pictures. Without them I'd have thought she was Kelly Lynch or someone else, but Renee would never have come to mind.
