I think she's a great actress, and there will always be love for her in my otherwise cold hard heart just because she was a great Bridget, but more than any other actress in Hollywood I have a hard time accepting her as a romantic lead. She is just not an attractive woman anymore. She's too thin, her hair is straggly, her constant dieting has ruined her skin, and she can't pick a hair color to save her life. AND she squints so much that looking at her gives me a headache.
That said, she was aboslutely beautiful, charming, and a pleasure to watch in JM. And that's saying a lot, because usually when I'm watching a movie where Tom Cruise is a romantic lead I spend the whole two hours giggling into my soda and making random Scientology jokes.

I think she was truely pretty in JM. I don't know what the hell has happened to her since then, i guess it's 'Hollywood!'. She was scary thin in Chicago and hasn't looked much better since. Although i can't hate on her for the eye squint, i do much the same when i smile.
And they really made her look like ass in BJD2.

I like the red hair--so much better than that awful, awful look she had going on at the Oscars.
Otherwise, though, she still looks...worrying.

She does nothing for me. The last time she was even remotely attractive was in JM and even then her character was so mushy it was like watching a wet sponge. I hate her "look I gained 20 pounds to be be fat!" when this makes her look normal for the Bridget Jones movies. She was stupid in Down with love and looked like a novice next to CZJ in Chicago. Does she look better as a brunette or a blonde--who the fuck cares? I really just want her to go away quietly.

What hell is wrong with her eyes? Seriously, is because of the Mongoloid Chic that's sweeping the nation?

I have to jump in here and say that I love Renee and thinks she's a great actress. I have yet to see her play a crappy role -- though to be fair I certainly haven't seen her in all the movies she's done. I enjoyed watching her on Inside the Actor's Studio and thought she was pretty well adjusted (at the time) in spite of all the media hype. It's not easy to come from a small town and learn to live and be Part Of a big one let alone fit in at Hollywood World. I think you have to pick and chose your friends (and enemies) very, very carefully.
I worry that she's too thin at times and will implode from all the dieting and I think she's been sucked into that "you have to stay super thin to stay on top" crap that is so Hollywood. (What's sad is that it's more often true than not - just ask Kirsti) I don't give a fiddlers if she changes her hair color. If she gets to have some private moments with her friends and family because she goes black-headed then let her have it. She seems intelligent and softspoken and values her privacy. Not a thing wrong with that if anyone cares to ask.

With the red hair, she looks like Kathy Griffin's thinner-necked sister.

I agree, but Renee doesn't really come from that small of a town. Little ole Katy, Texas is about 30 minutes from downtown Houston (population: over 4 million). She basically grew up in a suburb of the fourth largest city in the country. It may not be the most cosmopolitan place on earth (or even in Texas), but it's not Hicktown by any means. I think the small-town Texas girl crap is a ploy to make her acension seem that much more miraculous and fateful. Blech.

This may be quite true but to be honest I've not heard Renee say that or say so in quite this way. I have heard her hyped (read: media reporting about Renee) this way to make a mountain out of a molehill. If you know of any direct quotes from Renee herself about this very topic I'm open for reading/hearing about them because a Poser is not very attractive no matter what.
Meanwhile, I do maintain that growing up in a small town is not the same as living in a large one - even if 4 million people live 30 minutes away. I once lived in a small town but now I live in the suburbs of San Diego and I know so many more "Good Ol Boys" who live in once was (and in some parts, still is) cowpasture, with attitutdes to match, who you'd think have come from the deepest armpit of PoDunk, Out West Somewhere.
