I don't know about that. The Amazing Race, American Idol and America's Got Talent may appeal to middle-aged people, but all those bachelor shows sure don't. Like sitcoms and dramas, I think it depends on each show, not the whole genre.
But I do agree that networks are crazy to ignore the 40-65 demographic. They generally have more money to spend and many still watch real-time network TV, which is good for advertisers. What's the point of skewing to 25-year-olds if they only watch online or DVR everything and never see the commercials?
Just out of curiousity, why does everyone seem to hate Tyler Perry so much? What has he done that is so heinous?

I am still stunned he did such a good job in 21 Jump Street. I expected so little after G.I. Joe.

And while we're on that subject, please do likewise for Jason Isaacs. I thought he was terrific in Awake, and the show had an intriguing premise. I'm sorry it's cancelled. You may have already seen it, but perhaps you can comfort yourself by watching Case Histories? It's a British mystery series Jason Isaacs did that aired last fall on PBS. In fact, when I first heard about Awake (which I ended up really enjoying) I was bummed to hear he was doing an American show because I didn't want anything to interfere with his starring in more episodes of Case Histories. Apparently the BBC has ordered more episodes that are supposed to air some time this year. Thank you, thank you! This might tip me over to getting a Netflix account.

Greecies, I'll let you know if I ever get an answer to why Tatum is so loved. If I do, I'll have him as my avatar and will post in his thread every single day. Yes, seriously. But I doubt I'll ever find out what's so great about him.
*note to self: avoid all future films and interviews featuring CT*

I don't get the big deal about Channing Tatum, either. I mean, he has a fantastic body, but so does Chris Evans, who is also much better looking in the face and seems to have more going on upstairs.
I can't comment on his acting because I've never seen him in anything, but maybe he's got hidden depths no one would expect from someone who doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb in the fixture.

If you ever know the answer, can you pass it on? Please do. I think he looks like a thumb with ears. Haha I was just telling my friends tonight (who LOOOOVE him) that I think he looks like a potato.

I don't exactly like CT so I am not the best person to defend him, but I will say that after reading an interview where he flat-out said he wasn't a good actor, and the fact that he's willing to star in a movie based on his oh-so-sordid stripper past makes me think he must not be that awful. Still don't get the physical appeal and I don't think he's a good actor, but he does seem very likable.

He is likable. He was also funny I'm 21 Jump Street which surprised me, so maybe he needs to do more comedy.

I also get the idea that he's probably affordable, since he's new and aware of his limits. I normally don't go for beefcake types, but I did adore him in 21 Jump Street, which is the only thing I've seen him in. And I swooned the tiniest bit when I realized he had freckles on his shoulders. His face isn't anything special, though, and I agree that between Chris Evans and Channing, Evans will probably have more of a career, unless Channing crafts a pretty remarkable niche.
