Yeah that sounds about right. Or maybe they'll go the other route: "At what cost, fame?"
But most of the really scary fans that are organized into a fandom seem (at least to me) incapable of functioning enough in the real world to orchestrate an actual attack/assassination/whatever against whomever they hate/are in love with.
There was this guy on usenet, Kansan, who was pretty heavily obsessed with Heidi Klum. He thinks she's his wife and that her daughter is his, and he's the seconding coming of the tsar...or something.

I think we'll see something of that scope if C'est Fubar gets convicted, and a whole shitload of the CWTS decides to off themselves, as they've threatened. (Actually, I'm sure then a whole bunch of them will instead decide they need to LIVE to FIGHT for MICHAEL because HE NEEDS US!!!!)
But... if FUBAR was to off himself...?

Ahh, how I love seeing that still being posted places after all this time... I'm actually one of the founding members/funders/owners of EWIVVG, which is primarily actually having a go at one of the Crazy Fans of All Fucking Time - a completely demented woman who has spent much of the last three years preaching the Holy Gospel of Domlijah, which basically states that Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan are totally in love, always have been and always will, and are talking to their fans through their clothing. Although they're not doing the clothing shoutouts any more, largely because Dom and Elijah haven't been seen anywhere together for ages, but for awhile it was beautiful. Especially when they tried to argue that chartreuse was yellow. That was fun. Anyway, I can assure you, the hatemail that EWIVVG gets is hilarious and completely genuine. The guestbook used to be fantastic too, until someone found out the webmistress's real name and address and posted it there and we decided better to be safe than sorry. That was a bummer, because that guestbook was a thing of beauty. So many people not getting it. There’s Elijah with a cupcake to prove the gayness and people are all “OMG NOT GAY YOU BIG MEAN GAY BITCHES”. That was a fantastic one too. People actually believed that this woman was channelling hobbit memories and then becoming Elijah Wood. And then these same people gave them money. All the better when you learn that the woman who was completely scammed by them wrote a book about it, blamed Sean Astin for not helping her out, then went and heckled faux-Elijah at her workplace. There was an absolutely huge kerfuffle at Fandom Wank about it...which I now can't find. Ahh, Cassie Claire wank… Ok, here’s the story. Actually, there are several (and you can find out about most of them by trawling through Fandom Wank, although that’ll take some work). Cassie is a Big Name Fan in the Harry Potter fandom (and of all the weird fan things, I think the BNF is one of the weirdest). She writes HP fic, primarily a three-novel Draco series. If you care, you can find it at Fiction Alley. Anyway. She’s vastly famous in HP fandom and has lots of fangirls who fly off the handle very quickly. The first kerfuffle was over some part of her fic which she apparently accidentally plagiarised. And by plagiarised I mean there were great chunks of someone else’s book in it. She does quote things quite a lot in her Draco stories (there’s an awful lot of Buffy quotes), but usually references them. Then there was one where she talked about wanting an iPod and a fan bought her one. And one where her computer was stolen and people bought her and her flatmates new ones... Actually, Fandom Wank is a great place to see the complete fucking lunacy that fandom brings with it – although it’s deteriorated in recent months, and a lot of the posters are just as loony as the people they’re decrying. And I am going to stop now because this is very very long.

Or be offed by someone? I'm actually sort of suprised we haven't had a big Michael-Death-Threat drama lately...that I've heard of ([paranoia] and to anyone who might be reading this, I only mean that many people seem angry with him, I do not mean anything else, thanks [/p]).
In terms of the reaction within his fandom--that would not be pretty.

I love myself for starting this thread. I love you guys for sharing all the crazy. It's so incredibly fascinating!
I'm a huge fan of Queer As Folk, the UK version. I've been a fan for years, but haven't really started to search for boards and such until lately. What amazes me is that the Queer As Folk US fans seem way too protective of their show. I tried to tell them that I truly believe, when looking at it as objectively as I can, that the UK version is a lot better than the US version. I gave them examples of why I would think that. People went totally crazy, and I felt like I'd just defended Hitler or something. Their most used argument to prove me wrong, was that the American actors are much better looking than the British.
So then I felt much smarter than them, and I left.

Wow! I can't imagine the furore that would take place if someone did dare to threaten the life of "beautiful, pure 74.9 percent angel Michael who loves little kiddies and would never harm the darlings (although the evil little scumbags try to scam him on a regular basis and he doesn't realise because he's so PURE!!!111!1!!1)."
I realise that to make that sound more authentic, I need to put in a lot of spelling mistakes, but I'm sure you get the drift anyway.
I think the Cultees would go on a rampage. I'm sure they'd be emailing the courthouse and offering to act as his bodyguards for free. Although how much use a screaming, fainting "Michael touched my HAND!!" bodyguard is, I don't know.
Note to self: Check your post before you get distracted reading Fan_wank about Cassie Claire.

OMG! The same thing happened to me. I tried to explain why the UK version is better, and people lost their fucking minds. The hate mail I got was hilarious. I even got accused of being a homophobe. Yes ... I'm a homophobe because I prefer the UK version. Makes sense.
According to them, QAF (US) is the Best. Show. Ever., Gale Harold is a living legend and the best looking man on the planet. And Gale and Randy are a couple in real life.
As if. If I had the choice between Aidan Gillen or Gale, I would take Aidan every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Same with Craig and Hal.

Yes ... I'm a homophobe because I prefer the UK version. Makes sense. Heheh. I love how a lot of fans of gay couples (or just male actors they are convinced have something going on) accuse you of being a homophobe if you don't like that show / those characters / the plot etc. Yeah, defend anything gay just because it's gay. Makes sense. And most of these people are probably straight females, which makes it even more ridiculous. I hate The L Word, but that doesn't mean I don't love my lesbian cousin. It shouldn't be that hard to see the difference. Oh, hell yeah! I think Gale is very pretty, I have to admit that, but he is no Aidan Gillen. No way. Aidan was Stuart. Gale sort of just stands there and depends on his looks to get the job done. (I hope none of the crazies reads this.)

THAT guy is just insane. He made a pest of himself all over the Conan newsgroup because Heidi was on the show...once. I killfile'd him a long time ago, so I'm not sure if he's around, but wow, he was truly insane.

Ah, the famous "homophobe" argument. I've heard that lobbed at anyone who dares the question the perfect love that is "Viggorli." I haven't looked the word up recently, but I'm pretty sure the definition of homophobia isn't "the belief that Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom both like sex that involves vaginas."
Of course, on the other side of the coin you have the "OK with O/K" crowd. The battles that start between these warring tribes were hilarious.
