You ain't kidding. I knew about Etta James and Minnesota Fats (I don't think he was involved in her life as she grew up), but I'm surprised to hear about Carol Channing. I went to Wikipedia, and the story there is that her father's background was half German, half African. Carol didn't know until she was grown.
