I’m curious about something and hopefully it’s not offensive to ask; I’m really trying to understand better so I don’t accidentally offend someone someday. He says that he loves that he is tran and queer. Since he is trans and a he, married to a woman, would that no longer make him queer? Or is the fact that he is tran also mean queer? If anyone knows any resources that does a great job of explaining, I’d love to hear. I like to be educated and like to be able to answer by questions that may come up in conversations with my kids. Thanks!

So Netflix is updating all of Elliot Page's past projects to his new name. Does that make sense though? He starred in Juno as Ellen Page, shouldn't that remain for historic accuracy?
IMDb has actors referenced by their current name but adds a qualifier. A fictional example would be "Rhett Butler - Clark Gable (as Clark B. Gable)" or "Little Girl - Susanne Jones (as Susie Jones)".

Oooh oooh, we've got a new attitude! And a newly renamed thread, thanks to scarlet in this thread, (and Ripley in the Suggestions thread) for suggesting that "Homosexuality in Hollywood" be given an updated name, and thanks to Oxynia for making the change! More on topic: I am really excited to see what happens to Elliot Page's character, Vanya, in the next season of Umbrella Academy!

Ahem...actually that was me who requested the name change. Anyway, I read an article last week about how people shouldn't use the "dead names" of transgender people, but was wondering how that relates to someone like Elliot who has movies where, yes, they can use his new name, but it's still prior to his transition. I mean, it's not like those movies are just going to be erased from existence, so is it just a case of "before" vs. "after?"

I just looked up Jan Morris on Amazon. She wrote books both before and after her transition in 1972. Her older stuff that's been rereleased has her new name, and anything published back before her transition is under her deadname but links to her new name.

Not sure if this thread covers representation in movies, but a few months after seeing it, I'm still amazed at how much The Old Guard absolutely destroyed the "we're going to have 3 nanoseconds of something potentially kinda-sorta gay and trumpet it as representation" thing that so many action blockbusters have done. The gay couple was openly established without stereotypes or coy hints, they were central to the plot and could not be edited out without rendering the movie completely nonsensical, and the romantic speech delivered by Marwan Kenzari was one of the big emotional notes of the movie. It really threw down the gauntlet to other media claiming to have LGBTQ representation.
