See what you made me do?? I turned the “Heart Throb” thread into the “Endowments” thread, sans photos. This is an entirely different kind of throbbing. Hey! Whatever happened to the endowments thread? (Owned by Jon Hamm, and the hammaconda, if I recall correctly)

I think this is the right thread to mourn the loss of Hot Daniel Craig. I love him back in the 90s when he was Jemmy in the BBC's Moll Flanders. I loved him when he was wiry and hot in the early 2000s in all of those British indies like Layer Cake. Tomb Raider was garbage, but he was hot as hell in it. I also love him in his early Bond movies after he bulked up, even though big muscles aren't really my preference.
But he's just gotten so OLD! Particularly in the last few years. He's only 51, but he looks way older. His head is fully potato-ized. And without the Bond movies to keep him in shape, I saw him walking around with a gut. A gut!
Some guys never lose it, but I'm afraid he's lost it. He's still a good actor and I enjoyed him in Knives Out, but he doesn't do it for me anymore. I'm going to hold a memorial tonight for Hot Daniel Craig by watching Casino Royale, and shall pour one out in memory of his abs.

This is a heartthrob of the past that I don't get: Bo Derek. I just watched a documentary about braids and cornrows, and about cultural appropriation of braids by white people. She was cited as the first white person to wear braids (in the movie "10") and she was heralded as a "trendsetter" when previously braids were dismissed as "ethnic" and "ghetto" (and they still are...and yet when the Kardashians do it, it's "edgy"). Great doc, only 20 minutes, watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFGwmUCH9aI&t=953s...but as I'm watching this doc, I'm thinking, what am I missing with Bo Derek? She had a great body, but her face was just not pretty. She rivaled Rumer Willis in the lantern jaw department.

I never really “got” Bo Derek, as a sex symbol, and I was just entering my teens at her height, so I probably *should* have.
What I CAN say about her is, she was John Derek’s third wife. He was a fair to middling photographer/softcore film maker back in the day.
His first two wives were Ursula Andress and Linda Evans. Both of whom were better looking than Bo.
But you don’t really need to look too hard at the three of them to note that they could believably be cast in a movie as sisters, with Bo as the slightly unfortunate one.
Boy Howdy, that Derek guy had a TYPE.

Mousy librarian unfortunate? Or the “wears a mechanic’s jumpsuit and rolls out from under the car on the wheely thing with an artful smudge of greas on her chin” unfortunate?

Again, me being odd, I would put “mousy librarian type” above “unfortunate” on the hotness scale, but Bo would likely fall on the “chin smudge” end of the scale. A couple notches below Jo from Facts of Life.

The only good thing about Cowboys & Aliens was hot Daniel Craig reminding mumbling Harrison Ford how it's done.

Both of whom were better looking than Bo. I can't get over how John and Bo got together: he cast her in a movie when she was 16 and he 46(?), he left his second wife, and they lived in Germany because of the low age of consent. They didn't return to the States until Bo was 18.

I think Bo Derek's "appeal" goes back to the fact that she was totally willing to be topless in every film she was in, had a nice body and was kind of the Scandi-Amazon blonde ideal of the '70s. Or maybe blonde ideal of most Hollywood producers at the time, namely, her husband. Casting couch at its finest. But also what other "actress" was willing to be in all of the super-crappy movies she did (Bolero? Tarzan? Yes, I saw them, with the family no less, ugh. Trauma.)
