I didn't know who Plum Sykes is either, so I Googled her. She's supposed to be a fashionista? She looks drab and frumpy in all but a few of the photos I found.

Gotta say, Marina Rust and the Boardmans don't seem so bad. Neither does Tory Burch.
But man, I wish we had more socialites like Brooke Astor. Now SHE is a class act.
Think what you will of Ivanka's implants, she is nowhere near as loathesome as the Hiltons or Casey Johnson. In fact, all of The Donald's kids have managed to finish college and stay out of trouble.

Is it a prerequisite that a socialite have a foofy name? I mean, Tinsley? Plum? Come on.

Yeah, but who cares if they're fug... they're SKINNY and OMG they have GREAT SHOES!!! Exactly, it doesn't matter if they look fugly overall, most important thing is that they're skinny. Isn't that what our namesake's mom always told her daughters? To not get fat because rich men wouldn't marry them if they weren't super skinny?

I'm reading this book about fascism right now. It talks about how a large problem with the 20th century was a backlash against the population leading the country instead of the aristocrats.
If people in 1919 could have looked ahead and seen what our "aristocrats" would have been, they'd all be like "well, screw that. There has to be someone better than that." (Of course, I am not implying that anyone in the New York social scene cares enough to understand what fascism is. Which, I guess, is sort of the problem here).
I'm not fascinated by sociolites, but their antics make me feel so much more superior for having been born middle class.

I used to like Tory Burch more before I read the VF profile on her a few months ago. She was in Austin this weekend with her new bf Lance Armstrong--he was hosting a huge party at his home to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his foundation and they raised at least a million dollars. Apparently his ex, Kristin, was also there with their three kids--wonder what she thinks of Tory.

Gotta say, Marina Rust and the Boardmans don't seem so bad. Neither does Tory Burch. I liked Marina Rust's columns in Vogue. She had a dry sense of humor, and poked fun at herself when going to extremes to find vintage jeans or Prada slingbacks. She was (is?) very pretty as well. Tinsley Mortimer's hair irritates me, since she always does the sausage curls & refers to them as "my trademark". I can imagine her throwing a fit if someone else shows up with a similar hairdo. Aerin Lauder would look 10x better if she plucked her brows & stopped with the no-makeup look.
