It's probably because she shows up for everything - any function, Tinsley's sure to be there with her stupid "signature" curled hair. All the exposure made her no. 1 on the Socialite Rank website, and her popularity seems to have snowballed from there.
Now that Socialite Rank has imploded, she hasn't had nearly as much media attention. Either the people behind the website were on her payroll, or they had a big soft spot for horsey-looking women.

I think she's big (really big) in Japan also. Not in a Godzilla-type way....if there was any question about that.

Heh - I enjoyed this blog entry from the Wall Street Journal: What do socialites do all day?[/color]: Gosh, how can anyone keep up such a breakneck pace of life without collapsing? They're made of sterner stuff than us mortals, those socialites.

Can someone please explain to me why Tinsley Mortimer gets so much press. I really don't get it...she looks like a horse and has the worst nose job i've ever seen. I had never heard of her until a recent article in the German issue of Vanity Fair. According to that she's a socialite superstar in the US. Huh.

Lydia Hearst is usually not good looking (although I like her blond better than as a redhead.) And not even in a quirky modely type of way. She is also shorter than most runway models but she still occasionally walks in some pretty big shows. Looking nice.Unfortunate choice of eyewear.Run away!I am sure that most of her career is based on family-friend type situations. I guess there isn't really anything wrong with working with what you've got. I am actually sort of obsessed with un-photogenic female socialites (I would like to branch into males also but there isn't as much access to them.) And, even though she is a model, for me Lydia Hearst fits into that group. Two of my favorites: Jennifer CreelRenee Rockefeller (on the right) with Lauren duPont--who looks great from some angles but like the crypt-keeper from others.

For those who asked, someone just published a bio about Brooke Astor, and her grandson and his wife are no longer her custodians, and I think their money is tied up paying back her estate for some shady things they did. Mrs Astor is living with/being cared for by an old friend and her great-grands can visit at will. So she's fine now.
