I have no idea why Aaron Eckhardt doesn't have a career on par with George Clooney. Eckhardt is gorgeous, has an awesome body, can do drama and comedy equally well. After "Thank You For Smoking", he should have blown up huge but...

Even though Heath Ledger completely deserved all the acclaim he got for The Dark Knight, I think it is such a massive shame that it overshadowed Eckhart's performance as Harvey Dent. Ledger was the force, but Harvey Dent's fall was the tragedy of the movie. But having said that, I think Eckhart's biggest problem is that he's almost a cartoon version of a Handsome Guy. I don't know how to explain it, but his strongest roles seem play on his looks in a subversive way. In the Company of Men, Thank You For Smoking and TDK all rely implicitly on other characters in the film responding to him as a charismatic/attractive person. But I feel like when he's in a role where he's supposed to be good looking in a more "normal" way it doesn't always work. Or maybe it's just that the movies I'm thinking of where this happened ( No Reservations, The Core) just sucked.

Honestly, I thought Eckhart was better. I think everyone freaked out over Ledger's performance because he died IRL. That's just my uninformed, probably unpopular opinion.

His jaw and mouth are a little too big. His eyes are a little too small. They don't work together to make a typically handsome man.

I totally agree with you.
From time to time I tought to post about Aaron Eckhart in this thread, but didn't because I was afraid someone would then tell me about a horrible thing he had done or said, that I had been unaware of,which is the explanation for his non-stardom. Also I've then wondered if he's gay and therefore doesn't want too much scrutiny/publicty or that's why Hollywood doesn't him in bigger parts?
Some years before that he did a movie with Gwyneth Paltrow (and Jeremy Northam ! And Toby Stephens!) called Possession. It probably was crap, I don't really remember it, but I was expecting him to become a big star since then.

I love Eckhart too. He's always great in whatever movie he's in. Maybe we shouldn't wish stardom on him, just a solid career with good roles and nice paychecks!

Garret Dillahunt. He cracks my shit up (in Raising Hope and The Book of Daniel) and turns my stomach (in two[!] roles in Deadwood) equally well. He's sort of ugly/hot with a great body, too. More Garret, please!
