It is kind of weird how blonde women get a lot of attention but handsome blonde male actors never really get the attention that men with darker hair do, whether they are talented or not - Aaron Eckhart, Charlie Hunnam (fantastic on Sons of Anarchy), Julian Sands (he was hot as hell in A Room with a View), Cary Elwes (hot in Princess Bride), blanking on others. Ugly blonde actors get attention for being weird or creepy - Rutger Hauer, Christopher Walken, Nick Nolte, Dolph Lundgren (kind of ugly-hot).

Interesting point. All I'm coming up with are Robert Redford, Heath Ledger, David Spade, Matthew McConaughey, Simon Pegg, Steve McQueen, and Alex Pettyfer, off the top of my (blonde) head. There don't seem to be nearly as many blondes as dark-haired actors.

I never noticed that before but you're right. Could be why Alec Baldwin dyed his hair black before it went grey (I've read that he was a natural blond.)

I blame James Spader (and almost every 80s teen movie). I think blond men kind of got stereotyped as either Steff in "Pretty in Pink"- snobby, rich, WASP a-holes, or dumb blond surfer types like Bill in "Bill & Ted".
I tend to prefer Australian or English blond men myself.

Garret Dillahunt. He cracks my shit up (in Raising Hope and The Book of Daniel) and turns my stomach (in two[!] roles in Deadwood) equally well. He's sort of ugly/hot with a great body, too. More Garret, please! I just realized that he played Matthew Ross in The 4400 (I loved that show so much!). He really is so versatile. Charlie Hunnam should be more famous than he is but I don't think he wants to play the Hollywood game even just a little bit.

Yeah, he was light-haired when he was on Knots Landing. The blond man thing is an older Hollywood meme, I think. Leslie Howard as Ashley and Clark Gable as Rhett comes to mind. I think blonds, for whatever reason, are maybe seen as less masculine?

I think the 'tall, dark and handsome' cliche exists for a reason. I've read romance authors who say their readers aren't really looking for blond heroes either. I think the reason that blonde women are preferred is because lighter hair is associated with youth, which (for better or worse) is preferred in women but not necessarily in men.
