As a teen, I had a raging crush on Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gables books. He was so smart and funny and sweet. Swoon-worthy in a he-could-actually-be-the-boy-down-the-street kind of way. It didn't hurt that the bloke who played him in the (Canadian? PBS?) miniseries was too darling for words. Ah, I did love Gilbert! I also proudly declare my love for Atticus Finch. He's my older man literary crush. He's just so wonderful. Dignified and decent, with a sense of humor and a deep love for his family.

Add me to the Gilbert Blythe bandwagon. That boy brought the dreamy. As for my other literary crush, in seventh grade, I was very much in love with Sydney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities (so dark, so brooding, so yummy).

I always liked Jem Taylor and Frederick Garland from the Ruby in the Smoke books. I would alternate between the two from time to time.
Any love for L'Engle's male characters? Zachary Gray was selfish, but Calvin O'Keefe and Adam Eddington seemed okay.
The strange classic majors from Pamela Dean's Tam Lin always intrigued me as well. Even though Robin was annoying at times.
Oh, and count me in on the Gilbert/Darcy/Atticus love. Did anyone else ever think that he and Miss Maudie should have had a wild neighberhood fling?

Oh, who doesn't love Calvin!
I didn't think Zachary was really as bad as he was made out to be for quite a while. I thought Vicky was being quite judgmental, actually; so what if he didn't measure up to her ultrareligious, hyperintellectual family? But after he pulled that stunt toward the end of Ring of Endless Light, I was like "Let him off himself if he wants!"
Never really connected with Adam. I thought Vicky was mostly projecting superman qualities onto him, as teenage girls often do.
What I really liked, though, was teenage Charles Wallace in A Swiftly Tilting Planet. I wish the cover art on my copy didn't give him Leif Garrett hair, because that's not at all how I picture him!

Well, Gracie, then you'll be happy to know the sixth book A Breath of Snow and Ashes is supposed to be out this year sometime. Last I had heard it was "early 2005" tho I've not seen/heard about any publishing date as of yet...

Scottish time-traveling crack indeed! I was just thinking of reading those books over again. New one in September? Yes!
In May the next installment of Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire books is out, and I must say, I love Eric in those.
Also jumping on the Gilbert Blythe wagon. Even in the "grown-up" books, he was a sweetheart.
In high school, I think it was Nick from A Handmaid's Tale. They just stare at each other one night, and that did it for me. Been a while though, maybe he was a dick after all.
Girl-crush: Thursday Next
