I heard a discussion yesterday on one of the news shows about this, and the general consensus was that western European ambassadorships are largely ceremonial, since the State Department deals directly with the prime ministers in those countries. Then I wonder if she'd actually feel constrained in the role. She wields considerable influence in her chosen field right now, which she would not have as an ambassador.

I hadn't heard about this ambassador thing outside the boards, but it would be interesting in light of the ending to The September Issue. (I think it was around the end.) Anna was basically reflecting on her siblings' more substantive careers, and she made a remark about how they tease her for having such a fatuous job. I had a hard time reading her tone, but it was definitely set up to suggest that she may be secretly hurt or insecure. A stint as an ambassador would definitely feed into that storyline, if there is any truth to it.

We just found boxes of old Vogue magazines in our warehouse and oh the days of 90s supermodels were glorious was it not? Naomi, Linda, Christy, Claudia, Helena, and Cindy (she's last because as ubiquitous as she was, not my favourite.. but I will say, she did clone herself, my goodness). Came across a 1993 issue, help me out, were we truly that committed to berets? Pilfering the 1989 September issue with baby Naomi!!

I used to feel soooo elegant when I read Vogue in my teens and early 20's! The models and the photo layouts and the glamorous clothes. I lived for the inch-thick spring and fall issues.

heyalice Ripley Have I got a documentary for you! In Vogue: The Editor's Eye aired on HBO in 2012 and it interviews current and former fashion editors and editors-in-chief about the spreads in the mag over the decades. The supermodel part (I'm including Kate Moss in this category), which also go over the underlying factors in the industry leading to their rise, is generally between 30:00 - 40:00.

I've seen it and have the book! Abrams has published the best of some the editors best works--Tonne Goodman's is stunning. I should watch it again. You are so right Ripley, there was something about just pouring over a magazine and luxuriating. Ahh, just noticed a shoot done by Herb Ritts. I really miss magazines. I know everyone says the UK/European and Asian Vogue magazines are doing great things, but I'm feeling nostalgic at the moment.

I wish I had kept old magazines with the 90s supermodels. I think I have one in a box in my attic because Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt did a photo shoot with models in it.

She's much older than me, so we never attended school at the same time. But I definitely loved the Supermodel era.
