Once again all the minority women are hidden beneath the fold. And is Elizabeth Banks the Gretchen Mol of this year's spread? And where is Katherine Heigl? She has had a much bigger year than Jessica Biel with 27 Dresses, Knocked Up and Grey's Anatomy. Didn't KH already have a solo cover of Vanity Fair last year? Or was that Vogue? But yeah she would make more sense. The sad part is, I can't really think of 8 eight up and comers that should have been on the cover. Ginnifer Goodwin seems out of place as well and I like her. Come to think of it Elizabeth Banks is an out choice as well.

katherine heigl just had the cover of VF all to herself only a month or so, I can't see her agreeing to be part of a group shot unless she was going to be front and centre on the cover.
I really don't know how they select most of these actresses. Throw names in a hat and pick them out? sell off spots to the highest bidder?

You notice that these Hollywood issues never seem to feature people of color on the front cover, right? You have to fold out the rest of the cover before you see, say, America Ferrara.

They should have had Jessica and America change places.

Halle hasn't appeared in a Hollywood issue. Couldn't they get Denzel or Will to do the '03 A-list men cover?

I just remembered that Fishstick Paltrow did exactly that: she got a Vanity Fair cover while promoting her first pregnancy Sylvia and then appeared a month later in the group shot for the Hollywood issue. But that's Fishstick for you

The Hitchcock PortfolioMy favorites are the two last: Seth Rogan as Cary Grant (!) in North by Northwest and Marion Cotillard as Janet Leigh in Psycho. Rogan as Grant is kind of crazy, but it works. The worst ones are Renne Zellweger as Kim Novak in Vertigo (she looks 60!) and Gwyenth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. as Grace Kelly and Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief. It is painfully obvious that Fishstick has none of the elegance or regalness of Kelly and that stick-up-the-ass pose by RDJ is laughable. They couldn't get Clooney for this? I guess they were more concerned with promoting Iron Man. Charlize looks really good as Grace in Dial M for Murder. Naomi Watts looks like the Bride of Frankenstein. I'd actually pay to see a remake of Rebecca with Keira Knightly and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Mrs. Danvers.

Hollywood for their posturing to the contrary is still a good old boys club. And the television and movie industry in general still prefers/rewards whiteness. Just look at that list, before Chris Rock in 2007 one had to go all the back to 1999 to find a person of color. Has their ever been an Asian on the cover?? Or a Hispanic?? One that looks like America Ferrara as opposed to oh say Cameron Diaz or Salma Hayek. If you are white it doesn't take much to make it in Hollywood or get a Vanity Fair cover, see Jessica Biel and Katherine Heigl. Neither of whom I consider particularly talented, charismatic, or attractive. And the list goes on and on and on.............

Call me crazy, but if they had wanted to go for a out-of-left-field choice with the "North by Northwest" photo, they should've used Sacha Baron Cohen.
When I saw Renee, I thought, "Damn! They sure airbrushed the hell out of Helen Mirren."

I can see JJL adopting a weird accent and speech pattern for this role and drawing all attention to her as she did in Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle.
Seth Rogan is too fat to be Cary Grant. Jodie Foster looks good as Melanie Daniels and Naomi Watts looks good as Marnie.
