I just wish people would be as up-in-arms about some middle-aged man's pornographic fantasy cover as I'm sure they are in that Britney thread. Not that I'd dare go over there.
Where are all of the soapbox/high-and-mighty dwellers on this board? I hate that cover. Not only is it poorly done but it is just plain poor taste. All the women are nude, all the men are clothed. This is not just on the cover, please see the George Clooney photos as well. Just when I think we're getting closer to women NOT being viewed as filler/background, we have this cover to thank for proving me wrong.

That Eric Bana picture is on the right side of wrong For some reason, I find PSH very attractive in that photo! I see that following the footsteps of Robert De Niro and Sean Penn, Heath Ledger has been given the patented "tortured actor shielding self from the pain of humanity in oversized coat" shot. Annie Leibovitz is fast running out of ideas.

hal9000, your post cracked my shit up As for Heath being a tortured artist, that mofo has too much garbage in recent memory for folks to forget.

I see that following the footsteps of Robert De Niro and Sean Penn, Heath Ledger has been given the patented "tortured actor shielding self from the pain of humanity in oversized coat" shot. Annie Leibovitz is fast running out of ideas. This year's Hollywood cover already proved that. HL sure would've looked better on the cover than Tom Ford, clothed or otherwise. Speaking of men, given that most of VF's readership is women, it's a shame that at least one actor wasn't nekkid on the cover too. Besides HL, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Jake Gyllenhaal, Gerard Butler, Paul Bettany, Terence Howard, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Peter Sarsgaard (who has a great portrait in this issue) would be great for next year's cover. Compared to Clambo and K-Fuck, he's a saint, as far as I'm concerned.

What gets me about Tom Ford isn't the nudity per se as the fact that his scenes using nude or semi nude women seem so sterile. Look at how icy the VF cover is; I get that my gyno-mojo is useless against you Tommy, you don't have to rub it in...

I don't like that Eric Bana picture. It looks really porny. Maybe if it was in black and white...
On the other hand, Viggo can kiss my toes anytime.

First of all, wtf is Tom Ford doing on teh cover? I know Rachel McAdams backed out, but surely they could have found another actress rather than him inserting himself on the cover (he's the guest editor). I thought Rachel backed out on the day of the actual photo shoot? Like, showed up, realized what was going on, didn't feel like it and left? Maybe that's why no other actress is on the cover. I only had a look at the pics online but I was a bit baffled by Angelina's pic. All the others seem to be either (this year's) Oscar nominees or actors from nominated films. I must have missed something. Also, for someone who constantly talks about being so young and that when you're old you're dry and ugly, ScarJo always (naked or not) looks 15 years older than she actually is. Keira looks great IMO but that cover still sucks and is probably VF's worst Hollywood cover so far. Last year they had actresses on the Hollywood cover, right? So this year they could have had a great actors cover with people like Joaquin, Eric Bana, Terrence Howard, Heath'n'Jake, well basically all the guys they're featuring in the mag.

I'd've been cool with naked Taye Diggs on the cover. Actually, that could be their only cover for the next two years and I wouldn't complain.
Naked Taye Diggs. Yep.

I just got my issue over the weekend. I was underwhelmed by the photos. I thought Sienna Miller looked like total crap and I'm even more confused by her continued success. I thought the Jason Schwartzman shot and the George Clooney shot used females as props way too much. Hated those.
I also had no freakin' idea who Tom Ford was until that magazine and now I'm just annoyed that I know who he is. There's no need for that info in my brain.
I only read the article on MySpace and honestly, I'm a little annoyed with the excessive myspace coverage lately that's trying to make the site seem like it's so much more than it really is for most people. The article was way too "blah blah cultural phenomenom of creating celebrity out of nothing for middle America. This is so new and interesting and modern!" It's an online popularity contest and an easy way to keep in touch with friends. It is fun but not terribly interesting in and of itself.
