Ugh, rampant misuse of "in lieu of"/"in light of" lately and it's driving me nuts. My boss even does it and we're professional editors. He keeps saying things like "in lieu of this new information, we should..." Crazy making!! Also, yesterday someone was telling me about singing a "melody" of all the songs from a movie. Close, but not quite, my friend.. "In lieu of" is fantastic! My personal favorite was the professor I had once who was giving an entire lecture on effective communication. One topic was how important it is to use the correct word and to know what the words mean. On to the next topic, which had to do with limiting what you present to the relevant information. As he said, "You don't want to undulate them with too much information!" I was picturing hula dancers holding up charts and graphs.

I love this! I will now try to use 'undulate' early and often.
Not unrelated: I used the word 'embiggen' during a seminar with professorial types. I used air quotes just in case, but rather than getting confused looks, I got scoffed at for a Simpsons reference. Naturally, I replied that it was a perfectly cromulent word, and then I returned to my idea. I was trying to keep things light--I hope I didn't dumb the tone too much. Oh well.

Somewhere I saw a link to an article about CBS launching 'steaming' service. Perhaps they meant 'streaming'?

'Embiggen' is one of the handiest new words ever. I use it a LOT.

"steaming" service made me giggle like the ten year I apparently am.

Right? I wanted to know if the steaming service could be Cleveland-style. You can be the Beavis to my Butthead anytime.

narm and mrsp, you gotta let me be in your club, too. I can't even watch the Healthy Choice dinner "steamers" commercials without giggling. There is also the "steamer" you can get at Starbucks. No thank you!
