Spanking for spanking's sake because both people get off on it or just like it or whatever, is totally different from one person screwing up in some way and the other person deciding to spank the 28 year old (or whatever age) because he messed up. One would (I'm assuming) be a sex game and the other is well...not.
And Domestic Discipline stories aren't always slash. That first one that I read didn't have the characters in a slash relationship at all. Since then I've discovered that there are two types of DD stories - slash and gen.
I can't understand why anyone would want to 'regress' an adult character so that it's okay to spank him, and that he'll accept the other character's 'right' to punish him. If the story's in an alternate universe where one character is a child, then fine, but not where the characters are the same age as in canon and it's just 'okay' for one to punish the other.
I kept on thinking there was a missing part of the story, where the spanked character got up, beat the crap out of the other character, then took out a restraining order against him.
Btw, I write fanfic too (gen - no DD), because it's fun.

I have a question? What is slash fiction and what does does canon mean. I've seen these terms used in posts but I never got what they mean.

Kitt, slash is when the story has two characters of the same sex having sex or being in a relationship with each other. Like Kirk/Spock. Apparently it was named that because of the slash the separates the two names.
Canon is something that has been shown in the series or film so it's accepted as being true (in the context of that film/series or in fanfic)...like Kirk being Captain of the Enterprise.

Slash is a term that comes not from horror movies, but from the original (ostensibly) homoerotic pairing of Kirk-slash-Spock.
Canon means you stick to the characters/basic plot of the original source, i.e. you don't invent a new love interest for Aragorn (i.e. Princess Laighney-Leigh Aquafina, not-so-loosely based on you, who enthralls that hunk stud right away from that dippy Arwen).
ETA: Jinx, pepper!

Thanks for clearing that up. I had heard the terms a few times before but wasn't quite sure about the meanings.

Hey, Dwanollah, it's weird that we picked the same slash pairing, but I love your new love interest for Aragorn!

I’ve written in quite a few fandoms, run an archive site for fic of one show, and used to be severely squicked out by the idea of real people fic- after all where’s the compelling characterization? Most “celebrities” are pretty boring as people…<br> Then I got caught up in this one group/fandom, and read a couple. They still made me uncomfortable- mostly because the actions of the celeb seemed too out of character- but it is such a small group that I felt comfortable enough after the initial guilt to start writing an anti-Mary Sue. (No sex and the girl character isn’t impressed by Mr. Celebrity) It’s spell-checked and edited. I won’t ever post it anywhere, but I’ll send it to a few friends.
Am I still going to Hell?

Well, people did fantasize about it, and some even wrote fanfiction and distributed it in fanzines, but yeah, the internet has made it incredibly easy for fanwriters to share their works and get feedback, and then other people think, "Hey, I can do this, too!" and voila--internet fanfiction mania. The internet also allows people with incredibly obscure interests to attract a like-minded community.
One thing I find amazing is that, almost completely independently of Western fan-activity, Japan has developed its own huge female subculture of what is essentially "slash fanfiction" over the past 20-30 years. It's like there's a universal HoYay gene or something.

I got into fanfiction a few years back because of The X-Files. Took me awhile to learn the language (MSR, AU, Post-Col, Slash, M/O, S/O and so on) but learn I did. There's nothing more thrilling than reading about Mulder & Scully having sex. Heh.
Now I'm into the Bennett-Darcy thing. And it's all Colin's fault.

Now I need enlightenment! I know AU and slash but what are MSR, Post-Col, M/O and S/O?
Are the last two Mulder/O and Scully/O? If so, what or who is O?
