Wow, that's the first time I've heard of someone banning fanfic of fanfic; is that even legal? That's like not being able to make a Xerox off of a Xerox.

I read your comment first before the previous page and thought that someone was writing fan fiction about Nora Roberts. Although it probably does exist somewhere. Real Person fan fiction squicks me out.

I think it depends on the fic, sort of. I'm writing a fic that is techincally a RPF-its a Harry Potter/British Royal Family fic, where Zara Philips is at Hogwarts and becomes friends with Harry, then Princess Anne finds out about the Dursley's and takes Harry from them. I've read other fics which crossed over the Harry Potter Universe and the Royal Family...I also once read a oneshot where Luna Lovegood is Lady Gaga.

There's also a trope where the actors fall through into the universe where the stories are real, there is a handful of Teen Wolf fics that do this because the actor who plays Derek and the charater of Derek are so different that it would be funny if they met. HOwever, I have a problem with that when they have an actor sleep with a character, because its usually just a way to use their RPF ship without writing RPF.

Confession: If someone's story banner is bad, I will not read the story. I came across a Twilight story that had an image of Sting in the banner. Who is Sting supposed to be? Carlisle? People's imaginations......

I won't read fic that's got misspellings in the title/summary. If you won't check your two sentence synopsis, then I know the rest of the fic is going to drive me mad.

My summary pet peeve is either "I'm bad at summaries" or "Story is better than summary" because its like-you can't even tell me what the story is about?

Maybe this is a true confession, but I'm terrible at writing summaries. When I write stories, I write as one of the characters - whoever's POV I'm using. Writing a summary, I'm writing as me...and it's stilted and rather boring. Not that I said "I'm bad at summaries" in my summary.

Now I use a bit of the story as the summary.

I'm bad at writing summaries, too. (When it comes to scripts, I'm also bad at writing loglines!) Most of my fic, I'll just throw up a representative line of dialogue or two, maybe the first few lines of the story. Of course, I write for a tiny dead fandom so it's not as big a deal.

Any story that had a summary that ends with "Stuff happens" I won't read.
