I'm terrible at summaries too, but in a way, that just makes me even more irrationally uncharitable toward the "I suck at summaries" descriptions. If I can suck it up and write one, so can you missy.

Man, some serious burns in this thread! Not everyone is good at summing up a story in a sentence - that's a specific skill, really, and I can't see how that's a direct indication of the quality of the writing. (And I'm not just saying that because I feel like everyone's talking about me!) Maybe I'm strange, but I never really look at summaries anyway. I'm interested in fandom/ship/rating - if those three things match up to my interests, I'll at least start the story. But again, I generally write/read fringe fandoms, so one can't afford to be too picky.

Babylon 5 and Miranda; a couple years ago also wrote some Fringe which was actually a pretty smallish fanfic circle (and fringe, hee). I read but don't write Star Trek: TNG; not a lot of new stuff produced there.

My summary pet peeve is either "I'm bad at summaries" or "Story is better than summary" because its like-you can't even tell me what the story is about?

If this one is as successful as Fiddy Shades, I can see every fanficcer and her grandma dusting off their erotic Edward/Bella fics and selling them, and publishers eating it up. In a hundred years, all smut books published after 2013 will be descended from Twilight.
