So, while looking on tumblr for photos of my latest celeb crush, Ed Sheeran, at the Brits, I found a woman who writes Ed fanfic and read the first story. It was horrible in all the best ways-the first few chapters aren't formated so they're in one big paragraph. In the course of less than a month the main charaters meet, fall in love, get engaged and pregnant.
But the two things I really hated is that-I couldn't figure the timeline. In chapter one the main character and her best friend go to a small venue concept that turnes out to be Ed's but by chapter five he's at the fame level he has now. The second thing is that when all this hits the press, all the fangirls love the new girlfriend, and give her gifts while she's in her coma. I can suspsend my timeline disbelief but considering I was a 17 year old fangirl once...

Mary Sue: so blindingly awesome, even psychotic fangirls who would tear a woman apart with their bare hands just for being in the same room as their obsession fall in love with her.
I take that back if Sheeran doesn't have the kind of fans who act like that, but still. Mary Sue liek whoa.

I saw one on the Pit of Voles where the author admitted that the first chapter sucked, but assured the readers that it would get better. Seriously? I can see not being aware a fic is bad, but posting it while knowing it's terrible and then expecting people to read it after they've been warned?

The sad thing is, people will still read it.

Do you ever wonder if people that you know secretly write fan fiction? I just read a Twilight fic set in Austin where Bella is a knitter and I thought, divasahm? It was very funny and well-written, both qualities that Diva possesses.

Borokat, I actually laughed out loud at the thought of Divasahm writing Austin-based Twilight fanfic. OMG. Hee

I've been hammering out my little fantasies between carpools, laundry loads, and Percoset doses. Please don't tell my family--they'd be mortified, and with good reason. It's just so easy to imagine Bella and Edward here, what with the moon towers and all... (Seriously. If I were going to write fanfic, it would be Austen-, not Austin-based...)

Is anyone an Archive of Our Own Member here? Can they please send me an invitation? I'm dusting off a decades-old Elton John bandfic that features ALIENS! INTRIGUE! SPIES! TORTURE! MUSIC! ANTHROS! ROMANCE! and would like to publish it to honor my 12-year-old self that wrote it.

Let me know, and I'll send you one.
