Okay, it's far from ideal, but I took digicam pics of all the illustrations from the Japanese craft books and put them in three Flickr sets: Volume 1 (Green Gables) Volume 2 (Avonlea, Island) Volume 3 (House of Dreams, Ingleside) The books are laid out with a one-page synopsis and illustration of one scene from the novels and a photograph of the related cookery or craft project like so (although if reading Anne of the Island makes you want to inflict more Miss Ada Cushions on the world, you must be wrong in your upper story), and all the recipes and diagrams and instructions are in a black-and-white section at the back.

What is wrong with Miss Ada cushions?! Nothing, I suppose, as long as you love them wisely rather than too well. If you do end up with too many, the book also helpfully includes a recipe for "Priscilla's Ill-Fated Chocolate Cake" so you can ruin them.

Thank you for scanning these! Especially because I could never figure out (from a previous pic online) why Di was missing from the family on the cover of Book 3 ... she was running around on the back of the book!

This could have gone in "The Recently Deceased" but I thought it should be over here with the kindred spirits: Jackie Burroughs, who played Hettie King on "Road to Avonlea", has died of stomach cancer at 71.

So I finally got around to reading almost all the rest of the Anne & Co. books (just missing the ones that aren't free on Kindle yet). Rilla of Ingleside was one of the better volumes about the children of Anne and Gilbert, however, I came away wondering what L.M. Montgomery has against cats. The sacrificed kitten - which was written as a dear thing for a child to do - and the disappearance of Mr. Hyde put a damper on the whole thing.

She actually loved cats, but yeah, I've all but torn out the Stripey part from my copy of ROI because it's- *shudder*

When I read the books a couple of years ago, I posted here about how all the pets in the books seem to die horrible deaths, mostly from being poisoned. And I'm not sure I'll ever read ROI again because of the kitten thing.

ROI is the last book, right? Because if it isn't, I won't read another one just in case LMM does something horrible to Dog Monday.
