My inner goddess is Lilith and she's about to beat the snot out of Christian Grey. And then ship Ana off to an Outward Bound course.

Chonies made it 48 pages further along in Twilight than I did. I flipped it open at the library to see what the fuss was about and couldn't get past the second page.

I am unfortunately surrounded by friends who love Twilight or 50 Shades. I don't think any of my friends share my opinion that both series suck balls.

I also couldn't get into Twilight. And I read V.C Andrews!

I also couldn't get into Twilight. And I read V.C Andrews! Now there's a comparison. I started typing out the differences between the two but then reluctantly decided I had better things to do with the waning hours of the evening.

V.C. Andrews makes no bones about being trashy entertainment with no redeeming value. Meyer wants to pretend she's writing a grand romance, but Andrews did it better and crazier.

Andrews (at least the Andrews-penned books) always textually admitted her grand romances were completely fucked up. Cathy knew she and Chris were a total disaster and crime against nature. Self-awareness counts for a lot.

I have been lucky in that all of my friends, so far, have not liked both series. Some of them liked Twilight, but all of them roll their eyes at 50 Shades...

I recently bought 50 Shades for my kindle and god...it's horribly bad. I am somewhere around 40% and just can't get any farther. I refused to buy it for the longest time and finally gave in hoping it would be so bad it's good but its not...it's just bad. All of my friends love it too-- of course there's not much literary taste there to begin with (love them dearly but...). Maybe if he would stop calling her Miss Steele and her inner goddess stopped commenting on everything I could overlook some of the weaknesses. What 27 year old billionaire (another hah hah) would really be interested in such a dull, lip biting twit?

Here's my unpopular opinion.
I really hated the book The Color Purple. I loved the movie, but the book horrified me. Maybe I was too young when I read it, or maybe it was the lesbianism. I have no problems with lesbians, but as a 10 year old...let's just say that I was horribly naive. I'm thinking of re-reading it as an adult, now that I'm older. However, I think I've seen the movie too many times to enjoy how much different the book is. I feel horrible for not liking TCP, because it's considered on of the greatest.
