The Catherine Zeta-Jones vs. Bagels piece was very funny. I was relieved that CZJ won the show-down. (I was actually worried she'd lose while I was reading it!)
But I was surprised that they find William Shatner to be so cool! I didn't realize anyone thought of William Shatner as cool.

I don't really go there now the forums are gone. I never found the stuff they wrote all that funny anyway...and the only reason I'd read it was because I was on my way to check out the forums. Now that the forums are shut, what does Wing do with all her time? Me too, Miss Poutine. I think I've been back only 2 or 3 times since the closing. Wing probably devotes most of her time to TWoP, seeing as how it's exploded with new members. I liked the H!ITG but now when they write them up, 99% of the time there's no picture! I understand maybe some of these minor Hollywood players don't have pics on IMBD, but come on, there has to even be something they can post.

My guess is that it's not a matter of finding a picture, but clearing the copyrights. They might've played fast and loose in the old days (with the altered--but uncredited--images) but since there's a H!ITG book coming out soon, they're probably more aware of legal and copyright issues these days. Having dealt with intellectual property lawyers, it's the kind of thing they'd bring up if they were reviewing a nonfiction manuscript and ancillaries (of which FT is one). This is particularly true if they're planning to use the site as part of a book marketing strategy, and they'd be crazy not to do so.
It may also just be a matter of not having time...writing and editing is comparatively quick, finding and altering an image to match earlier images, then animating that image? Not quite as quick. And if someone else (Glark?) was doing the images, a free website has got to take a back seat to a revenue-generating one like Glarkware (or commercial work done under the UBER banner).
Me? I'm a fan of H!ITG in particular...I'm a sucker for character actors, so I was thrilled to find a site that would help me put names to faces. That's how I found FT in the first place, via a Google search!

I've only been back once since the forums shut down, and then only to make sure they were actually gone. I never enjoyed the other features on the site enough to actually make the effort to seek them out absent any other prompting. I'd read them in a waiting room, when there was nothing else to read, but not generally.
This isn't meant as bitterness (although it's negative) but I just...I don't know, it feels like the whole 'snarking on celebs' thing has had it's media moment. I m not talking about boards like this one, that self-select (i.e. if you're not interested in the snark, I doubt you're hanging out here) but just in a wider cultural sense - it doesn't feel in any way fresh or funny anymore, and the unfortunate bottom line is no one involved in Fametracker has the talent or originality in terms of their writing or their take on things to go further than they have. I think DHAK has had it's time in the sun.
That's all just my opinion, tho'. Who knows, maybe the book will be a crazy, break-out success and Wing and Glark will have naked rolling-around-in-money parties?

I always liked that pretty much the only band to ever receive a Fame Audit was Weezer. I think that's why I only got a 20% warn, which was cleared soon after, when I screwed up naming their thread.
And I agree that the H!ITGs are worthless without photos, though I understand why there aren't photos.

True, Vacationland. I didn't think about copyrights for photos and the time it may take to post them. But since the forums are no longer there, shouldn't they now have the time for stuff like that? Who knows, I'll probably only visit the site when I've exhausted all my other options on the web.
I think that TPTB and recappers over at TWoP, etc are burnt out, so they aren't fresh and funny. Alot of it just seems... mean spirited, I guess. I used to read recaps/fame audits/H!ITGs over and over, they were so LOL funny. But now... meh.

I'm happy to see a thread on FT open since I've always had one question about the site that I was always afriad to ask.
My favorite feature (aside from the board) of FT's that was long ago discontinued was the "Oscar Recall." Does anybody know why they stopped? I think it had something to do with legalities, but I never knew for sure.

I was so surprised about the FT forums closing. Is that book deal for "Hey! It's That Guy!" still on? It seemed like the FT forums would have been a publisher's wet dream for a ready-made pool of potential buyers.

I have to admit that the William Shatner fame audit was one of my favourite pieces ever written on Fametracker. With the possible exception of the annual Oscar meeting of the Karl Malden clones. It was so giddy and over-the-top (much like the man himself) that I was giggling the whole time I was reading it. And yes William Shatner is cool, simply because the man has been on a fame Mobius strip for so long that he is indestructible and eternal. The Moses comparison may have been blasphemous but was also awesome. Khaaaaaaaan! Pure bliss.
I haven't been to FT much since the forums were excised but on occasion there is a piece that is so good that I'm glad that I made the effort to visit. That was one of them.

I still check in and read what the new articles. I like the Blue Moon ones the most, generally, because they're a bit more wacky. This is my favorite article ever posted on Fametracker. Perhaps it's just that I'm from the 21 Jump Street generation, but I giggle maddly every time I read it.
