And another poster, whose name meant: One who argues against a cause or position, not as a committed opponent but simply for the sake of argument or to determine the validity of the cause or position, was pedantic to the extreme. I just remember having a discussion once about how women aren't heros in any movies and talking about Trinity and constantly being told, no, it's invalid--because she's an agent or a conduit or whatthefuckever she was. And it was annoying. It isn't like he owned the thread and could decide if we could submit a character.

Hey! I remember that row! His (her?) attitude used to really piss me off sometimes.

And The Passion thread was just a potboiler of seething emotions. Two posters in that thread who were Catholics (and married to each other) who did not see anything wrong with Crazy Mel making a stack of money to build his own church/buy his own island etc used to annoy me as well. But, as they seemed to be popular with the Moddies, I didn't bother arguing with them. But I did wonder why they never got a smackdown.

Btw, I don't see anything wrong with Crazy Mel making tons of money, but it riled me that he went on and on and on about how he was doing the film for the LURVE of God, then lined his own pockets with the profits. It just felt too 'thirty pieces of silver'-ish to me. YMMV.

And can I name names or must it be kept off the board? Just in case, and until an official ruling comes down, mrpancake, I've sent you a message about the argumentative poster from the quote above.

D'oh! Sorry, I should have mentioned it was back in the day on Hissyfit. Sorry, after a while, I tend to lump those three sites together, since they all had the same owners and mods. I don't believe I ever posted at FT, because by then I had had it with the crazy ass rules.

To be fair, I made a LOT of assumptions at the time, but my point was-you can't criticize one religion, and then turn around and say another one is totally off limits. Don't make excuses for the Taliban and then say that there's absolutely NOTHING good at all about the Pope, or that all priests are peds, etc.

I also hated how everyone was too old and too heiferish. And you know, it'd freak me out because I have cellulite and at 34, I don't look 21. And thought, man, people are harsh.

I understand. I especially didn't like it when actresses were criticized for having less than buoyant breasts. I mean do people honestly believe that tits stay round and firm forever? They don't. And you know what? There's nothing wrong with that. Sheesh.

I honestly didn't expect people to have such skewed perspectives on body image because FT struck me as as a haven for critical thinkers: people who deconstructed pop-culture rather than mindlessly absorbing it. When I found people who appeared to accept an image created by Hollywood and the media, it was always a shock.

I also hated it when people would bash a male celeb's hubby because "she wasn't pretty enough to be with him". I'm sure people know that compatibility comes in many forms. Judging a woman's worth by her appearence seemed out of place in FT because I frequently felt an authentic counter-cultural undercurrent.

Monster Zero I HATED you! Just kidding. Really you were one of the few I could count on to be in the CEMJ thread. It made me feel a little less obsessed. Like the fascination with CEMJ's trial is normal, ya know?Remember the day that CEMJ was late for court? I was online with some of the MJ regulars and it was so fun! The countdown, will he make it or won't he?
