DracoPendragon, this always baffled me too. I remember thinking, "WTF?!" after venturing into Cate Blanchett's thread and reading numerous posts about her "ugly" husband.
I avoided most of the more contentious threads (a.k.a. Jennifer Garner's) at FT, and even though I was a registered poster for three or four years (the forums helped me avoid my dissertation), I never did feel all that comfortable there. The chumminess among many of the old-timers was always so impenetrable, it seemed.

That's basically all CB's thread was, unfortunately. I'm a fan of hers and I found it disappointing that FT-ers were more interested in dissing her husband than discussing her movie roles.
Oh, (one of the most memorable of my FT annoyances) some a-hole was trolling around posting about Nicole Kidman every 10 minutes, repeating that he or she didn't think CB was on NK's level or something. Dude, there's nothing wrong with Nicole, but...she had her own thread, go post there! I noticed crap like that going on all the time over there. Yuck.

They would probably call it The Losers vs. Cheap Liquor, and the Liquor is winning. Maybe I'm dumb but... Whaaat?Or are you just randomly posting at every opporunity to see what happens after "God"?

Don't attack other posters.
eta: The "celebrity vs. thing" thing is getting out of hand. I wish there was an audience feedback option there to let them know what you think. I mean, it's just dumb.
But, this made me giggle:

You know what it reminds me of: I had a group of friends and we'd obsessively write top 10 lists that were first sorta substantive and eventually became silly, random and largely scatological (top 10 euphemisms sfor sexual terms that begin with W; top 10 best non-sequitors that ___said; or quotes in our quote book). Now, we thought it was hilarious because it was all these "in-jokes" and was part of our relationship.
I think everyone has done this in one way or another. Now picture putting it on the internet because you think that other people would find it funny.
Welcome to Fametracker. There has been funniness in the past on the staff's part but it has devolved into i's original form--an unfunny injoke that is only relevant to the participants. Yeah, Star Vs. Thing is funny if you are stoned. It doesn't mean you spend time writing on a webpage.

It was about the only way you could get attention around there.

Furthermore, I wonder if Wing's employers/potential employers look at Fametracker's increasingly subversive content and think, "Hey! We've got a great writer on our hands!" It doesn't make any sense.
At least that's not what I here.

It probably impresses editors looking for light, fluffy, faintly subversive entertainment content, but for everything else, you've got to show you're a real journalist. As in following leads, checking sources, doing research, writing article proposals and outlines, etc. I don't have the feeling she does that; what she writes is more creative snarking on her part, and that doesn't sell, because you can get it for free on dozens or hundreds of celebrity-oriented web sites.
I don't see her being any sort of mainstream writer unless she gets somewhere with her Hey it's That Guy book deal, and even that isn't so much snarking as cinematic reference.

OK, they did ask a legitimate question (Michelle Rodriguez is joining the cast of Lost and how do you add a passenger? Where was she all this time, hiding under a giant palm frond?)
However...
Angelina Jolie vs. Bottled Water? The Billboard Country Music Top Ten If Kenny Chesney Were Anakin Skywalker and Renée Zellweger Were Padmé Amidala? Catherine Zeta-Jones vs. Bagels??
They must be really bored. Also, bottled water should have won. So should bagels.

I have to say that while their recent efforts have sucked, this was pretty funny.
