Oh, my God. That is the funniest thing I've read all morning. Thanks! Ah, de nada. (Takes bow.) But seriously, I think that they just stopped enjoying FT. What was a hobby or diversion became a job. Pity, but easy to happen. PS. Celebrity vs. thing? WTF?

They did something similiar on an episode of MST3K where Tom Servo was talking about the song "Owner of a Lonely Heart" (is much better than the owner of a broken heart") and starte comparing "owners of lonely hearts" to owners of pencils and owners of pies, and things like that. It worked in that it was random and it was just a one time thing.
Maybe they got the idea from there?

I just found the first OODT in my garage. Should I put it up on Ebay?

Snerk.
You know, I never bought an OODT and would have been much more inclined to make a small donation via Paypal. I just don't need t-shirts. Especially t-shirts I am never going to wear outside the house.
I agree with whoever said it became a job. And the thing that sucks about that is that they implicitly blamed the posters for the downfall of the forums (you didn't buy enough OODT! never mind that we didn't give you any warning that we were in dire financial trouble!) when I am fairly sure it wasn't that at all.

Gah, I can't believe I'm typing this, but I do remember several warnings about the financial situation and at least two good ol' fashioned scares about closing the forums. This was since 2001.
Bottom line? I'm much happier here. Maria was right. When God closes a window he opens a door.

You should send it to Wing and say you want your money back. Do it!!! Totally do it!!!! What was the first OODT anyhoo? And everyone w/ this sentiment is right: this place is way better than FT. It's like FT was high school and all the cool people went to this college. Like California University!

I'm so happy I'm not the only one! The shirts were clever and cute, but besides this one I'd feel a bit too dorky to wear any of the Glarkware stuff in public. I did once order some buttons and donated them to that monthly pool thing. I considered it penance for incorrectly naming a thread I started (am I Catholic or what?).

I just read the Tom Hanks vs. Bath Puffs thing. Just... what? I guess it's supposed to be amusing, but I obviously am not cool enough to get that unique brand of humor. Blech, is what I have to say to that.
I do still enjoy the H!ITGs. I think the key to liking that particular feature is being an avid watcher of bad movies. I watch a lot of schlocky B movies, and that's the main haunting ground of your average H!ITG, so I recognize probably 90% of the actors they profile. It's sort of rewarding to see your favorite evil mad zombie scientist get some props, even if it is just on a sad little website.
