Yep, it's called Mr. Mercedes.

Gerald's Game? Meh. Better get a great actress for facial expressions since that book is mostly inside-the-head dialogue and exposition. Because it's so much in her head, I wonder if a lot of it will be flashbacks to her childhood memories about Spoiler her father molesting her. Spoiler tag for a 25-year-old book, but yeah...

The Shining >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Doctor Sleep. Yeah, I wish King hadn't tied it to the Shining characters, just introduced new characters. He kind of ruined Danny Torrance for me. Dr. Sleep wasn't bad, just not epic like the Shining.

Agreed. I liked it, but it left me kind of flat. If we're talking sequels, I thought Black House was a pretty good follow-up to The Talisman. Not his best work - and I found the blind DJ guy really annoying - but still, pretty good.

I need to reread Black House! It was set in my town, Peter Straub spent summers here when he was a kid, so the first chapter is a joy with the thinly veiled renaming of streets and buildings, but still so literally the place where I live. Then Steven King was hit by a truck, and the whole thing went dormant for a long time during his recovery. When he came back, the pacing was wrong, and it no longer related to the space it originally was placed in. It now could be any house in the woods.
A disappointment (King is really good at making the environment song) but still a good read. I'm half way through Mr Mercedes. The halfway says it all, any other King book I would devour in one or two sittings. It's pretty good. Still waiting to get hooked.
And while we are here, I watched the 1st episode of Under the Done this season, written by King. It is cray cray! But I like the new characters, and wasn't upset by the removal if a few of the old..

I could not get into Under the Dome at all. Watched 3 episodes last summer and really disliked the changes from the book.
Conversely, I loved Doctor Sleep. Abra was one of my favorite characters from King in awhile.

This season's first episode of Under the Dome is the first one the felt like it was from Stephen King. I liked it last year, but it didn't give me the chills the way King's books do. I haven't read Under the Dome because once I do that, I generally hate the show or movie because of the changes.

I have read Under the Dome and I loved it, the changes in the show pissed me off so much I couldn't get past the first episode.
