I've been watching documentaries lately. Little Big Dreams is about children put through brutal training at China's Li Xiaoshuang Gymnastic School. Between the crying, the one coach taking a swipe at a kid with a staff, one of the boys looking like a stressed out middle aged man, and the sheer amount of pressure on the kids is depressing. Wisconsin Death Trip , is about a town that went crazy in the nineteenth century. I want John Waters to make a miniseries about this. Painted Babies (1995) and Painted Babies At 17 (2008) is about two child beauty contetstants.

I love Megabattie! I love Walter! I didn't know today is bat appreciation day. youngsters on dressing gown Here is one of my favorite clips. They put nail polish on the bats' nails so they can tell them apart. There is a new dressing gown and four freshly fed juveniles. Why not nap in a pocket, hanging upside down as bats do, with just the polished toenails visible on the outside? It's the polish on the nails that just kills me. One of the babies wets herself while hanging out in the pocket, so there is a follow up clip of a confused youngster getting a bath. I want to be Walter in my old age.

He’s living the good life in retirement. He’s a cranky old fart sometimes, but there are also videos where he’s letting a little baby orphan snuggle up and nap next to him. I also love this clip of the oldsters napping and Teddy’s weird, squishy-sounding snoring.Megabattie was my entry point to the obsession (and I’m so glad she has two recent rescues who are thriving - Westie and Zeus - since so many of her recent rescues have been bats she had to euthanize). I’ve also followed Batzilla the Bat and Batusi Nights (who has one of my favorite clips of her crew of bats who have hit their “teens” and are turning into holy terrors) - they are more carers than rescuers and have aviaries. Then I think Janine Davies works directly with Walter and his crew.

Yes, Walter helps the babies learn how to bat. If they end up on the floor of the enclosures, he comes down to see that they get back up.
He's toothless at this point, but will let Teddy know that he's still one for the ladies, and Teddy better not try to take his women. And he manages to eat apples.

Another favorite clip is where one of the carers interrupts Walter while he’s trying to have sexy-fun times with a lady bat and he gives her a LONG and loud earful about it. No, I’m not obsessed with the lives of these bats. Not at all.

I discovered this one by accident the other night, and stayed up past dawn watching related videos. It makes you never want to leave the house again. It was frightening how many times guns made an appearance in those incidents. It also made me consider getting a dashcam for my own car.
